Carefree Truth
Issue #576, July 3, 2017
Mayor Les Peterson introduced the new Commander of the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) for District 4, Captain Cory Morrison, and invited him to say a few words. Captain Morrison said he was just promoted 2 days prior and assigned to this area. He had served here 7-8 years ago as a Sergeant, when Councilman Jim Van Allen was part of the Posse, so is familiar with the area. He is looking forward to getting to know the Council members and to working with them.
Mr. Van Allen asked if the decision to reduce Carefree's extra traffic deputy to 6 months was discussed with Captain Morrison. The Captain replied that he thought the decision had already been made. Mr. Van Allen believed that Gary Neiss had structured it so that it could be changed at any time. Mr. Neiss agreed that it could be changed, but stated it is a function of cost. The Town pays extra for additional service. Mayor Peterson added that the decision was made with the caveat that if it is not working it can be revisited with MCSO. A good faith effort is being made to make the new arrangement work.
Captain Morrison wants to work with Carefree and meet the Town's needs. Mayor Peterson said, "Thank you and welcome. We look forward to working with you again."
