Mayor Les Peterson expressed deep appreciation for all the work the teachers do for the children in our area. He turned the floor over to Councilwoman Cheryl Kroyer.
Ms. Kroyer noted that the Town of Carefree, in conjunction with the Cave Creek Unified School District (CCUSD), honors one outstanding staff member from each school or department each quarter of the school year. Ms. Kroyer read the award winners' name and a short narrative about the honoree, and each winner received a Carefree Cares pin. CCUSD will also recognize the winners at its upcoming quarterly Governing Board meeting. Each teacher will receive a $50 gift card from the Town's notary collections, which are put into a pool and donated to a worthy cause.
The criteria for selection are that the winners volunteer substantial time and expertise to the school and/or the community; are a positive role model for the students, staff and community; serve as an inspiration to others; and always represent CCUSD in a positive and professional manner. The selections were submitted by Principals and Directors at each site.
Ms. Kroyer congratulated the winners. Mayor Peterson said the "Carefree Cares" Teacher Awards has become one of the highlights of the Town Council meetings, seeing the people who are doing such an outstanding job. He felt privileged to attend the CCUSD Governing Board meeting the following Monday, and he hoped to meet many of these award winning teachers in person there. He asked that they please accept the gratitude of all of Carefree.
