During the current Carefree election cycle, mayoral candidate Melissa Price has made a big deal about having "gotten religion". She originally made this claim on April 18, 2016 as an excuse not to attend the religious memorial service of former beloved Mayor David Schwan because she "had committed attend to a Bible study class".
(The photo below was taken of Ms. Price at a New Year's Eve party and was posted on FaceBook after she had used religion as the excuse to skip David Schwan's memorial service. Please note her modest, religion inspired fashion statement and her "sober" demeanor...)

Herbert and I attended David Schwan's memorial service, which at the request of his family, Herbert recorded for them. Many other Town Council and Town Staff members, past and present, attended. Former mayor Ed Morgan flew in from out of state to attend. At the time of the memorial service Ms. Price was still a member of the Carefree Town Council. Despite the differences between Mayor Schwan and Councilwoman Price, attending his memorial service should have been a show of respect for the position and for his longtime service to the community and the Town.
During her first term, Mayor Schwan had appointed Ms. Price to the position of vice mayor. She was chosen by Mayor Schwan to be the vice mayor because she presented herself as "a bridge builder", a claim that held appeal after a contentious election. Mayor Schwan later discovered her to be anything but that, and in his second term replaced her as vice mayor.
This desire to be mayor is not new to Ms. Price. After Mayor Schwan resigned because of his deteriorating health due to ALS, Councilwoman Price fought for the position of mayor even though she was no longer the vice mayor. An outside expert attorney had to be brought in to confirm that the existing vice mayor legally becomes the mayor if the mayor is no longer able to perform the duties of that office.
She again connived to become mayor during a subsequent election by illegally using a Town resource to send an email to everyone on that list, encouraging them to support her run for mayor. After sending that missive, she was told that using Town resources for personal political ambitions could result in harsh consequences, at which time she dropped out of the election altogether.
(Seeing Ms. Price's campaign signs for her current mayoral run, Herbert wants to know in which millennium that photograph was taken. Transparency at its finest!)
