During Current Events, Vice Mayor John Crane announced that the Carefree Memorial Day ceremony would be held in the Cave Creek Cemetery on Pima Road from 8-9 AM on May 31st. The great lineup of speakers will include Col. Tom Kirk, US Air Force fighter pilot, retired, who was a Vietnam POW; US Army nurse Captain Winnie Fritz, who served in Vietnam and was also a pilot; and US Army Staff Sergeant Rick Gregory, who served in Afghanistan and received a Silver Star. The program will be held outdoors, before it gets hot. Vice Mayor Crane hoped for a good turnout from the public and the Council. During Call to the Public, Kandace Conteras read an email from Chris and Natalie Raines:
Dear Kandace, and Carefree Town Council members,
What do you do when your noisy neighbor is Civana Hotel?
Every day we and our neighbors are subjected to noise pollution from the outdoor activities this establishment runs on their tennis courts. Amplified music and exercise instructions is blasted to their class participants numerous times a day from that location.
We hear it all clearly inside our home and we are two streets away! We have called and visited the hotel numerous times to ask them to be more considerate. Dennis Randolph has also been involved. All to no avail. The noise is temporarily reduced when we complain, which we appreciate. But then in a day or so is back again. Why this cannot be resolved permanently is beyond us. Why a commercial business – ironically a health and welfare business at that - cannot manage to peacefully coexist with residents who have been here long before they bought the property is ridiculous.
We ask for your help in resolving this matter permanently.

Mayor Les Peterson noted that outdoor exercise classes are one way that Civana stays in business, but that the Town would discuss possible ways to resolve the issue internally.
