During the Carefree Town Council meeting on 6/4/24, Maureen Benedetto was talking about the NW corner at Tom Darlington Drive and Carefree Highway when she went off of topic and started to talk about the Hampton Inn. She accused Councilman Vince D'Alieso of bringing the Hampton Inn to downtown Carefree. "I do not want you to be the guy to do a lot of development", "and you gave us the Hampton Inn, which not a boutique hotel.”
The Green Shirt group accused the Town of approving the Hampton Inn during the lockdown for Covid. Nothing could be further from the truth. John Traynor's group got it wrong again. Why tell the truth when a lie will better further your agenda?
Several designs were presented during public meetings over many months and the final one was tweaked to include further input from the public. These renderings were then displayed in public places and at Carefree Town Hall for viewing. Further citizen input was accepted before the final design was approved.

Lyn and I voted against the property tax for automatic aid fire protection because Rural/Metro has been very good to us. They put the fire out when our house burned down during construction, keeping the fire from spreading to the surrounding desert. They were here to carry Lyn out of the house down the many outside stairs and back up again in a sling for doctor appointments after her surgeries. It did not appear that the Town was considering Rural/Metro for a fire protection company due to hostility towards them from other fire companies involved in the automatic aid program.
Traynor's group stated they represent 80% of Carefree citizens, just because that 80% voted no on a property tax to fund the automatic aid program. They do not. Most of the Carefree residents do not agree with the Green Shirt group on many other issues. Each issue stands on its own merits. Do not let a small vocal, badly informed group hijack Carefree.
I thought this was interesting. When I recorded the Carefree candidate forum, John Traynor, leader of the local dissidents, walked past me and told Mayor Crane he was happy to see him, then turned back to me and said he was not happy to see me. He left half way through the Candidate Forum. Perhaps my videos are historically like shining a light that makes the cockroaches scatter.
