Maricopa County Sheriff's Office's (MCSO) Lt. Ryan Baranyos reported that Deputy Tim Gocza, who has been providing contract coverage for Carefree, received a promotion and will be relocating to a different part of Maricopa County at a time as yet to be determined. He will be replaced by Deputy Rob Halliday, who comes from a long line of law enforcement. Deputy Halliday's father was a former Director of Public Safety in Arizona. Mayor Les Peterson had heard that there was a lot of competition for the promotion and receiving it was quite an honor. He said the Town has always had a good relationship with Deputy Gocza, and wished him well.

Lt. Baranyos also announced that MCSO will be switching from 3 day/13 hour shifts to 4 day/10 hours shifts County-wide. The Mayor asked on average how many interactions deputies had with citizens on a 13 hour shift. The Lt. replied that it depended on the district. The Anthem District encompasses New River, Desert Hills and Anthem. Because of the size, amenities, and density of Anthem, it is similar to a small city and is one of the busiest beats in the County. Calls for service are lower in Carefree due to the much lower crime rate. A typical 13 hour shift involves 5-7 traffic stops.
Councilman Glenn Miller asked if Deputy Halliday had trained with Deputy Gocza. Deputy Halliday confirmed that he had ridden with Deputy Gocza and worked with him on schedules. Mayor Peterson said MCSO has offered to let Council members ride with the deputy for a shift and that he would like to do so at some point.
