Carefree Truth
Issue #499, July 18, 2016
During Current Events, Vice Mayor John Crane gave an update on the Lock Box Program implimented in Carefree in conjunction with the Foothills Caring Corps. (FCC) and Rural/Metro (R/M). Upon request, a lock box is installed on the front door of a person who is elderly or disabled. If help is required, the first responder can gain access to the home with a lock box key rather than breaking down the door or breaking a window.
To date, 42 lock boxes have been installed in Carefree. The Town seeded the program with $3000. The boxes are installed free of charge, but people receiving a lock box are asked to donate $25 if they can afford to do so. Many have donated more than requested, and the kitty now contains over $3000.
The program is overseen by R/M Chief John Kraetz and one of his men. When they receive a request for a lock box, one is normally installed within 2 days. People who have fallen, some repeatedly, have been helped. One life has been saved. The people are well served by this program. If anyone knows a person or people who could benefit from receiving a lock box, please make them aware that this help is available. Information and fliers can be found at the FCC office at 7275 Easy Street, Ste. 103 & 104, and at the Carefree R/M fire station on Tom Darlington Drive.
