Carefree Truth
Issue #502, August 8, 2016
The Carefree Candidate forum, sponsored by Carefree Truth, hosted by the Carefree Resort, featuring Carefree resident and renowned radio personality Preston Westmoreland as the MC, and starring our Carefree Candidates, was a pleasant and informative evening. Unfortunately, the program Herbert uses to do the videos is having a problem and will not allow the camera to download onto the computer despite his best efforts, so I'll be calling our computers' doctors at Tech4Life. They are whiz bang at fixing these frustrating machines, but until they have worked their magic, the report on the forum will have to wait.
But speaking of the forum, one of the audience members asked if chain stores come to Carefree, will it hurt the small businesses already here, using the Starbucks going into Basha's as an example. I shared that concern, and had previously asked Lars, owner of the Carefree Coffee Roastery, if he felt Starbucks would threaten his shop, where I regularly stop for some of his awesome tropical green iced tea. He thanked me for my concern, but explained that Starbucks sells a very different product than his, and that his customers prefer the Roastery's specialty coffee offerings over those of Starbucks'. The Carefree Coffee Roastery sells only organically grown coffee, using beans from small farms which don't use all the chemicals utilized by the big plantations that supply the beans to chains such as Starbucks. He didn't feel Starbucks would jeopardize his business in the least.
Chef Eugene, the Executive Chef at Venues Cafe, made a special birthday dinner consisting of a lobster tail stuffed with crab meat for Herbert. It was fabulous, as was my filet with bearnaise sauce. Chef sent out a delightful cheese and fruit platter as a starter. It was all wonderful. If you haven't been to Venues since Chef Eugene took over the kitchen, you simply must give it a try.

Alberto (Alberto Ristorante) is now back from vacation, and has resolved the problem with his freezer, which he discovered had broken down in his absence. He is back to his full menu, along with his many delicious daily specials and some dishes he can make for you that are not on the menu. Did you know that he worked for Alfredo in Rome, where he grew up, and he can make REAL Fettuccini Alfredo? That's one of my favorites (not on the menu). I add one of his sweet Italian sausages. Total yum.
Enjoy a special wine dinner on August 23rd at Cafe Bink, located in the Basha's center.
