What was originally thought to be an explosive device was brought to the Carefree Fire Station today. See the video below from ABC Breaking News.

Fortunately, it turned out to be harmless. Below is the update from the Arizona Republic site, azcentral.com. But as both Rural/Metro Fire Chief John Kraetz and Maricopa County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Officer Courtney Palma stressed, if you find anything you think might be an explosive in your home or yard, DO NOT bring it to a fire station or a police station. DO NOT touch it or try to move it. Call the police immediately. "Sometimes it doesn't take much to detonate an explosive..." They will come to you and will remove it safely.

A Rural/Metro Fire station in Carefree was evacuated Friday evening when a resident turned in what firefighter initially thought to be a bag of dynamite.
Authorities have since determined the potential explosive was "a tube with a wire coming out of it," said Officer Courtney Palma, a Maricopa County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman.
Sheriff's bomb squad members removed the device, which they are treating as an explosive, and will safely dispose of it, Palma said.
Shawn Gilleland, a Rural/Metro public information officer, said firefighters were cooking dinner when the resident came in with the bag just before 5:30 p.m.
"He goes, 'Here you go, you guys want this?' " Gilleland said, adding that the man pulled out what appeared to be a stick of dynamite with a fuse in it. "If you find something like that, you need to leave it where it is and let law enforcement come out and dispose of it properly."
He said the firefighters had the man set down the bag and called in the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.
It took MCSO's bomb-disposal experts less than two hours to remove the device at the fire station near Tom Darlington Drive and Lucky Lane.
Palma said the resident came across what he thought were blasting caps while going through his father's old things.
She had this advice for anyone who comes in contact with a possible explosive device: "It is important not to touch it or move it, and contact the Sheriff’s Office or your local law enforcement agency and allow them to come to you and take care of it.
"Sometimes it doesn’t take much to detonate an explosive, and it’s better to be safe than sorry in these types of situations."
