Carefree Truth
Issue #516, September 26, 2016
Carefree resident Stan "the Man" Lowther is a friendly face known to many. For a number of years, he has frequently occupied the bench outside of the Carefree Post Office building at 100 Easy Street. Stan is well known to those who pick up their mail at the Post Office, and he is always happy to chat with those going in and out. Stan celebrated his 99th birthday on Sunday, September 11th. A well attended birthday party was held for Stan on Monday, September 12th, in front of the PO building.
Mayor Les Peterson read the following Proclamation:
WHEREAS, the Town of Carefree is a community which acknowledges that the history and long residency of
Stanley Lowther
a special resident of the Carefree community, and
WHEREAS, the Town of Carefree is a community which encourages its citizens to maximize their personal involvement and participate in the community by giving of themselves wholeheartedly and with total effort, commitment, and conviction to their family, friends and community, and
WHEREAS, the Town of Carefree is a community which chooses to shine a light on and celebrate individuals like Stan Lowther within its community who, rain or shine, walks up to the Post Office nearly every day and brings conversation and good tidings to everyone he encounters, and
WHEREAS, the Town of Carefree acknowledges Stanley Lowther, and is proud to support "Stan Lowther Day" on September 11th, the date of his 99th Birthday, and
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Les Peterson, Mayor of the Town of Carefree, and on behalf of all residents of Carefree, do hereby proclaim September 11, 2016 to be Stan Lowther Day in honor of all of his contributions to the Carefree community.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the Town of Carefree to be affixed at Carefree Town Hall this 11th day of September in the year of our Lord two thousand and sixteen.
SIGNED:
Les Peterson, Mayor
ATTEST:
Kandace French, Town Clerk
Following the Mayor's reading of the Proclamation, Stan talked about his experiences as a logger in Oregon and as the owner/operator of a candy store, followed by a more in-depth story of Stan's life, written and read by his dear friend Norm Kolb. The speeches came to an end with Stan reciting some of his favorite hilarious naughty limericks, (which should inspire you to watch the video!) https://vimeo.com/183201451
A good time was had by all. We are so fortunate to live in such a lovely little town filled with wonderful people like Stan.
