Maricopa County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) Captain Kip Rustenburg announced that District IV is adding a new Relief Sgt., Jim Kempher. Lt. Hoggatt is returning to act as a back-up for Lt. Baranyos on his days off or when he is called away. The new Watch Commander is Mark Parks.
Captain Rustenburg invited everyone to attend the 5th Annual Public Safety Fair on October 8th. Mayor Les Peterson said he had the privilege of addressing the 37th Annual Northwest Shuttle Conference, attended by police from many of the western states. Sheriff Joe Arpaio spoke to an enthusiastic crowd for about a half hour, then stayed a while longer for photos. The Mayor learned that MSCO now has its own shuttle plane to escort prisoners being extradited to or from their destinations, a process which used to take place using commercial airlines. Captain Rustenburg said the use of their own plane provides significant savings for MCSO and is more efficient.
