Carefree Truth
Issue #541, January 3, 2017
The Town of Carefree and Contest co-chairs Joe Corpora and I invite photographers to enter the 2017 Carefree Desert Gardens Photo Contest. The 4 acre Gardens circled by Easy Street in downtown Carefree contain many spectacular and rare plants, several unique features. Some fascinating events such as the Pumpkin and Christmas Festivals are hosted there. All of these present great photo opportunities.
Photos may be taken at any time of the year, but if you don't have any yet, grab your camera, stroll the Gardens, take your best shots, and enter the contest this month. Your photo could be one of those in the 2018 calendar. The 2017 Gardens calendars are now available at Carefree Town Hall.
*There are no time constraints when the photos can be taken. The photos may be entered throughout the month of January. The deadline for entries is January 31, 2017.
*Photos may be in either film or digital format. Digital entries may be enhanced. Participants must submit an 8" x 10" print. Those who submit via digital format will also be required to furnish a CD with their high resolution photo in JPEG or TIFF at 300 dpi. Photos with date stamps or watermarks will be automatically rejected by the judge. *Submit print photos to the Carefree Desert Gardens drop locations at The UPS Store at 36889 N. Tom Darlington Drive, the UPS Store at Scottsdale Road and Carefree Highway, the UPS Store at 48th Street and Carefree Highway, or the CVS photo counter at Carefree Highway and Cave Creek Road. Entry forms may be obtained at each of these locations and at Carefree Town Hall at 8 Sundial Circle, or downloaded from the Town of Carefree website at www.carefree.org. The Town of Carefree will have first rights to use the photos that are entered but the photographers will retain ownership of the photos and will be credited when photos are used for merchandise or marketing.
*A maximum of 3 photos may be entered. An individual may only win once per yearly competition. A professional photographer will judge the contest. Photographs will be judged on both technical and artistic merit. Finalists will be awarded prizes.
*The photos will be mounted on an 11" x 14" mat board for the Peoples' Choice public viewing and voting. The photo receiving the most votes will appear on the cover of the 2018 calendar. Ballots will available on site when the photos are on display at the Art Festival and at the Library. Each person may vote only once and for only one photo.
*It does not cost anything to enter the contest. Complete the entry form, sign it, attach one to the back of each print entered, and deliver your entry/entries in an envelope with your name clearly printed on the outside to one of the drop points. A special box will be available where the entries are accepted.
*The Town of Carefree reserves the right to use all photos for any purpose.
Enjoy the Gardens, and have a happy 2017!
