Carefree Truth
Issue #554, March 17, 2017
Mayor Les Peterson reiterated that the purpose of the marketing program, as discussed during the workshop, is to revitalize and re-energize the image of the town and to attract a constant flow of visitors as well as potential new business owners and residents. The goal is to create year round events that last 2-3 weeks and are designed to support the economic development plan.
The Vision is to be the vibrant social and cultural hub of the Northeast Valley, drawing both residents and visitors. The Enchanted Garden Pumpkin Festival will be the Fall Experience. The Christmas Festival/Winterfest will be the Winter Experience. The Spring Experience is yet to be determined. Festivals utilizing signature third party vendors will be sandwiched in between the Experiences. There will be fewer of the smaller festivals and they will be of a high quality. Fewer or reduced street closures during these festivals are being investigated.
In summary, the Experiences will be built around unique and creative seasonal themes with longer time frames. Ray Villafane will be utilized to create excitement and interest. Short third party vendor festivals will be limited in number and vetted for consistent quality and image. There will be participation opportunities for local non profit organizations. Contract workers will be utilized, rather than depending on volunteers who are understandably difficult to recruit for long stretches during prime holiday seasons. To reduce the financial burden on the Town, revenue generating opportunities will be created within each of the Town sponsored events. A Town of Carefree information booth will be included at each event.
