Carefree Truth
Issue #557, April 7, 2017
Robert Jacobsen had previously expressed his concerns about "dangerous trees along the highways" during the March Call to the Public. He met with the Mayor and "some kind of committee" on March 17th but stated he hadn't "heard back from anybody" and felt it had "fallen through the cracks".
Mr. Jacobson and Councilman Jim Van Allen had taken a drive along Cave Creek Road, at which time Mr. Jacobsen said Mr. Van Allen made comments which supported his contentions that the trees were oversized and encroach on the highways. Mr. Jacobsen "would like to pursue this and be kept abreast of how it will develop, and whether the Council and the City will be responsible for this". He wants "something to be done" and asked Mr. Van Allen to comment on "things seen on the drive". Mr. Van Allen responded, "According to the rules, I can't".
Mayor Les Peterson explained that during the ride, Mr. Jacobsen pointed out 6 trees he wanted removed. Mr. Van Allen and Gary Neiss agreed that 1 of those trees should be removed, and the removal had been ordered. "The others were not deemed to be, in our opinion, hazardous."
Mr. Jacobsen said the Town has still not addressed "the signage problems". Mayor Peterson pointed out that those placements were approved by highway engineers, but said they would have another meeting with Mr. Jacobsen to address signage. The Town reviewed all the issues and "we will take you through all we did".
