Carefree Truth
Issue #567, May , 2017
Gary Neiss stated that the process of determining the 2017/18 fiscal year (FY) budget involves 4 public meetings. At the 1st budget workshop an overview of potential revenues, savings, and expenses was discussed, as well as the Town marketing strategies. At the 2nd budget workshop the draft of the line item budget was reviewed and the marketing strategies were discussed further. Both workshops were held in April.
At the May Council meeting, the expenditure limit/bottom line was adopted. On June 6th, the public hearing will take place to adopt the budget for FY 2017/18. The new FY begins on July 1st. Once the final budget is adopted, adjustments within the line items can be discussed and money can be moved between departments, but the expenditure limit cannot be exceeded.
With Councilman Mike Farrar absent, the Council voted 5-1 to approve the expenditure limit of $6.5 million. Councilman Jim Van Allen was opposed.
