Director of Marketing Beth Renfro began by reminding everyone that Carefree Restaurant Week runs from October 1st-7th, and encouraged everyone to try some of Carefree's wonderful restaurants. She also reminded people that the Farmer's Market is moving into full swing in October. It will be located around the sundial area and in the Sanderson Lincoln Pavilion every Friday from 9 AM- 1 PM. The Carefree Veteran's Day event will be held on November 11th.
The 4th Annual Pumpkin Garden will be bigger and better than ever. Several changes were made to address concerns voiced by the local businesses. The footprint will expand down Ho Hum to Spanish Village. Easy Street will have limited accessibility but will be open.
The new family friendly Haunted Happenings area will include bouncy houses, a petting zoo, and pony rides. The Haunted House will be sponsored by the Carefree/Cave Creek Chamber of Commerce. A new pumpkin carving contest is a collaboration between ASU students, Centerpoint Events, and the Chamber. Held on both weekends, the carved pumpkins will be judged by the public.
The Chamber is also holding a cornball tournament "Turkey Toss" at the sundial on October 27th from 10 AM-1 PM. Bring a frozen turkey or ham, or a gift certificate from a local grocery store to be donated to the Foothills Food Bank. A refrigerated truck will be on site to store the turkeys and hams. Cornball bags can be purchased for $5 with the donation of a turkey, ham or gift certificate, or for $10 without the food donation.
The Town is looking for volunteers to help at the Enchanted Pumpkin Garden Festival. Those interested can access the volunteer page on the websites
www.enchantedpumpkingarden.com or www.carefreepumpkingarden.com Ms. Renfro said names would be taken for the next week or so, and volunteers would be contacted by email to set up times.
Bella Donna & Cane will again be organizing the Trunk or Treat event on October 31st. A portion of Easy Street will be closed off and trick or treaters can visit trunks decorated for Halloween, providing a safe alternative for small children. Businesses and individuals who would would like to participate can go to the Trunk or Treat link on the Enchanted Pumpkin Garden website.
