Join with me to Support “CCUSD Joining CTED”
I support expanding the curriculum of the Cave Creek Unified School District (CCUSD) to more fully accommodate the needs of some of its students in the areas of technical education and job specific skills. This could be readily accomplished through CCUSD joining the Career and Technical Education District (CTED) making its students eligible to attend classes at the East Valley Institute of Technology (EVIT).
To be sure, CCUSD already has a broad and deep curriculum for its students, as reflected by its being ranked as the #1 school district in Maricopa County for student achievement. But some of its students would be better served to receive accredited training in the areas in which EVIT specializes. For some of the students whose aspirations after completing high school are more in the vocational area rather than continuing their academic education, a void exists for which there is a readily available solution.
Fortunately, that solution is for CCUSD to begin partnering with CTED, and through them with the East Valley Institute of Technology.
EVIT is a Career and Technical Education District which overlays most of the public schools districts in Maricopa County and provides technical education and job specific skills. EVIT provides these skills in the areas of engineering, health fields, technology fields, HVAC, veterinary, media and culinary/hospitality, among others. Participating students travel to an EVIT facility to take specialized coursework each school day, after taking a minimum of 4 courses daily at their local high school. For CCUSD students, any student who lives within the CCUSD boundaries and/or attends Cactus Shadows High School would be eligible to enroll in EVIT courses. There would be no cost to participating CCUSD students, although the cost of entering into this partnership would entail a minimal cost to each taxpayer within the CCUSD District.
Voters within the CCUSD boundaries will be asked a question on the ballot in the upcoming November General Election to approve CCUSD entering into the partnership with CTED described above. If the voting results approve the partnership with CTED, it will provide an excellent opportunity for participating students to gain practical knowledge and experience of immediate applicability. For some of these students, it will help them move forward into the next phase of their lives on an expedited basis.
I will be voting to approve the ballot question authorizing CCUSD to enter into a partnership with CTED, and I recommend that all voters within the CCUSD boundaries do likewise. Thank you.

Hello neighbors. I am writing to you today to offer some thoughts on a very important ballot measure coming up for vote on the November 6th ballot. This is an important measure because it affects our kids. When I say our kids, I mean kids in our community, not just kids in our home. As residents, we have taken on the responsibility of acting as stewards for our community, being responsible citizens and doing what is right for others, being a good neighbor, and paying it forward. Out of the 26,344 households in our CCUSD community, 25% have one or more children, but this measure affects all residents. We have a responsibility to give our kids every opportunity to succeed, and this measure helps us in doing just that. We have all seen the green signs around town that say “CCUSD √ YES JOIN CTED.” CTED is Career and Technical Education District. A CTED allows public schools to provide career and technical education and specific job skill training to which students may not otherwise have access.
I met with CCUSD Superintendent Dr. Debbi Burdick and Assoc. Superintendent Dr. Kent Frison, Ops/Finance, to collect more information on the East Valley Institute of Technology (EVIT) partnership. This program will provide opportunities for our high schoolers to learn technical skills such as automotive, dental careers, culinary arts, fire science, HVAC, nursing, veterinary, etc. Programs are offered at the East Valley EVIT campus (transportation will be provided by CCUSD and paid for by state funds). In addition, the currently unused buildings of the Desert Arroyo Middle School at 56thStreet will be leased and staffed by EVIT to provide culinary, computers, health care, and media programs (among others) as early as fall 2019. CCUSD negotiated a lease by EVIT for use of the school campus, at no cost to CCUSD, providing additional revenue for district supplies. There are 646 current Cactus Shadows students enrolled in career and technical coursework, so the interest is very strong by our kids in participating in EVIT programs to further their training.
What will it cost us? $5 a year, for every $100k value of your home. With average home value in CCUSD at $550k, it means the average cost per homeowner would be around $28 a year. I have three children currently enrolled in CCUSD schools, so my perspective is also as a parent. I support this program because it uses facilities that we already have available and a partnership with EVIT, a strong career-technical training program that is thriving in neighboring communities, giving our kids valuable training that will replace workers that eventually retire from these trades, in careers that will continue to grow as our community grows. Please join me in supporting this measure, Vote YES. For more information, please contact Dr. Kent Frison @ CCUSD, 480.575.2000. www.evit.com

EVIT is such a cool program. I was principal at Paradise Valley High School and part of another CTED – WestMEC. The programs these CTEDs offer our students are just incredible. So supportive of ALL students – both college-bound and career oriented.

Hi Lyn,
I would love to really start ramping up my advertising for my Trunk or Treat, could you help me?
I would love to put out the great pics that were taken last year and a reminder to people to register their “Trunks” at the carefreepumpkingardens.com website. We will also have the food truck The Wandering Donkey there, plus Mike with Mike’s Chicago Dogs, and Ice Cream from the Creamery in Cave Creek.
Also we will be awarding prices this year to the best “Trunks” 1st, 2nd & 3rd place winners.
I will have a special attraction this year at our “Mermaid Cove” at Bella Donna & Cane. Amanda the Desert Mermaid will be making a special appearance. :)

Lyn, I read a copy of the Daily Smash. It is masterful. Great work Deane Arnold and Ray Villafane. I read it three times. Only one remark. Gary Neiss's cousin should not been chosen for Mayor for a day, "shows nepotism".
