Carefree will become the leading venue in the Valley for Halloween activities again this year from October 19-28. Ray Villafane and his band of talented pumpkin sculptors will once again exhibit their magic creations throughout the Carefree Desert Gardens and other areas in Downtown Carefree.
This year’s award winning event is expanding and will be better than ever. In addition to all of the old favorites, we are adding:
- A Haunted House
- A Corn Maze, Inflatable Farm, Petting Zoo and Pony Rides
- Live Music and Entertainment on Two Stages
- A Harvest Market
- The Enchanted Pumpkin Garden Beer Garden
- Costume Contests
- Family Pumpkin Carving Nights
- Pumpkin Pie Eating Contest
- And much more - click on CarefreePumpkinGarden.com for a complete listing of activities
We are encouraging all Carefree businesses to decorate their storefronts with festive Fall/Halloween decorations to help support this event and extend the excitement and traffic throughout the entire Downtown Carefree area.
And don’t forget the popular “Trunk or Treat” activity on Halloween evening, October 31. Decorated vehicles and costumed people with special Halloween treats will be parked at dusk along Easy Street, and families with kids will be encouraged to walk among the parked vehicles to receive special trick or treat candies and gifts. This activity, which began last year, is returning by popular demand. It is a fun and safe way for children to enjoy all the fun of Halloween in one location.
Let’s all join together to help support this Enchanted Pumpkin Event, and to capture the large numbers of people it will attract to Downtown Carefree. It represents a great vehicle to help build your business.
Mayor Les Peterson
Maggie, I appreciated seeing your comments in the last letters in Carefree Truth and would like to take this opportunity to explain in more detail why we have a slogan/tag line and why we think this is a positive thing. We have long been looking for our brand of 'I Love New York’, ' Just Do It', etc. It is meant to remind our residents to shop, dine and play in Carefree instead of anywhere else. As it gets expanded the meaning of that will be reinforced hopefully in the Town’s business's windows, on banners around town and eventually in a loyalty program. The loyalty program will reward people for shopping and dining in Carefree. We hope this will make our residents both proud to live and shop here and equally proud to support our Town’s businesses.
I am sorry you didn’t get a call back when you phoned town hall but I would be more than happy to sit down with you and talk in more detail about how we envision Keep It Carefree working long term.

I agree with Maggie, Do we really want to keep it Carefree? The first thought I had was "no outsiders". Of course that's my negative mind. I like something like "Welcome To Carefree".

(Lyn's note: The slogan is meant to remind people that we should shop and dine in Carefree, supporting our local merchants and tax base, instead of automatically heading south to Scottsdale, as so many are prone to do.)
We had a great time with you and Dr. Herb tonight at Alberto's restaurant. Cheryl LOVED the chicken breast with wild mushrooms and I of course couldn't resist the spinach ravioli in marinara. Alberto's "torta da nonna" (Grandma's cake) was the best dessert ever! Truly reminded me of cake my own grandmother made when I was a kid. I felt like Alberto was a family member with how he treated me/us all night. What a nice and sincere man---the hug from him as we were leaving was genuine...
Thanks again from both of us

(Lyn's note: I was totally expecting this "neener neener" from Steve, and it came minutes after I sent out last week's letters. The guys at Tech4Life hate AOL. They tease me mercilessly for using it. I normally love AOL, which is user friendly. Not so much, last week. I was close to calling Tech4Life to move me to a new email 'hood.)
Tell me again why anyone would want a Magic Bird trunk fest when you can have something that is a total win for everyone? I can hardly wait for the next art show! Laurie Palace
