“LITTLE BOAT OF HOPE” CARRIES INSPIRATION INTO THE NEW YEAR
Town of Carefree Receives Unexpected Gift in the Gardens
The Town of Carefree welcomed in the New Year with a heartfelt art installment by actor/director/artist Jack Millard of his “Little Boat of Hope” which was found by town staff along the reflecting pool in the Desert Gardens underneath the iconic Carefree Sundial on the morning of January 4, 2017.
“Town staff discovered the little boats along the edge of the reflecting pool at the Carefree Sundial and weren’t sure what the mini intricately handcrafted boats meant and who left them in the garden. Upon a closer look we noticed a message in a bottle tied to the sail of the boat that says, don’t give up hope. One of our staff members recently lost her mother unexpectedly and was instantly drawn to the boats and considered them to be an inspiration and symbol of hope,” explained Director of Marketing Gina Kaegi. “After posting the display on Facebook, we have been getting requests from locals who say they know someone who could use a little boat and hope that Jack leaves more in the garden.
Found all over the world by unsuspecting onlookers, the art installment titled “Little Boats of Hope - a Voyage Through Grief” is a dedication from actor/director/artist Jack Millard who lost his wife to a tragic drunk driving accident on New Year’s Day, 2013, while also battling stage IV breast cancer. Her death has taught Jack the power of joy, laughter, faith and hope inspiring him to launch whole fleets of the boats in Paris, New York and other parts of the world. He recently finished a series of three videos on You Tube that explains his journey and the power of hope. A local news outlet recently published the complete story of Jack Millard and his boats. His journey can be found at www.youtube.com/user/actorjackmillard1.

Thanks Colleen and Chamber Office for your comments below regarding publicity coverage in Images AZ and City Sun Times. I always appreciate hearing from you and deeply appreciate all your support for Magic Bird Festivals.
It has always been part of MBF's goal and template to represent and serve the Town of Carefree well in helping to brand the Town of Carefree and to add some revenue to the Town treasury.
As for GREAT PRESS, that's kudos to Kim Prince and her team at Proven Media Services. My Magic Bird Festivals' Events could not and would not succeed like they do without Kim and Company.
We all, I think, became aware of Kim's abilities and talents and dedication having worked together for the past 9 years (for some of us) on Carefree Christmas Festival and witnessed how Kim accomplished amazing feats of publicity coverage for our Carefree Christmas Festival designed by Jo Gemmill in the GIVING SPIRIT OF THE SEASON...and she did so quite rapidly and consistently. And those photographs she captures in abundance are incredible and so useful in the marketing when competing for the media's attention.
I remember I think it was December of 2012 the crowd on Saturday night for the Light Parade and first ever Fireworks was so gigantic that people could hardly move. Our Food Court never emptied out that year. 2013 was likewise amazing and then the rain years came in 2014 and 2015. In 2016 though we got back to those hoped for high numbers in attendance and the Food Concessions and Gift Market Exhibitors for whom I can speak were very pleased !
Carefree Christmas Festival 2016 was a beautifully presented and well marketed and attended weekend event at a time of year when it is an even greater challenge to attract large numbers of people because of how busy people are and how much other big event competition there is out there !
Seeing Kim in action for Christmas Festival is precisely why I hired her to do Magic Bird Festivals' PR and Marketing when I was awarded the opportunity by invitation of the Town of Carefree to develop some new and different Festivals inside their Desert Gardens.
And now Carefree has their own Marketing Director in Gina Kaegi and some new Events that she has designed and developed, i.e., the fabulous Enchanted Pumpkin Gardens, to add to the mix and variety of excitement attracting ever more visitors and valley residents to Carefree. It's a real winning combination in my view. Variety is the spice of life as they say.
It's been a LABOR OF LOVE for the past 8 years in Carefree for me and my wonderful team and I remain grateful and hopeful for continuing into the future.
Sincerely,
Roberta Toombs Rechlin

Thank you as always Lyn for your publicity support and to Herbie for his fabulous photos as well. My apologies for not including that in this particular communication, it was an over sight on my part, please forgive me. I think I sent a specific Herbie and Lyn thank you email acknowledgment along these lines soon after Christmas Festival. Nevertheless, I should have including you both again. You know my heart. I truly am grateful to you both and do absolutely appreciate all that you both do for your beloved Carefree. So glad you are putting the previous into Carefree Truth and feel free to put this one in there too my friends.
Sincerely yours,
Roberta
Thank you, Roberta, for your generous and kind words.
Let us raise a toast to future success for the small but mighty businesses that serve Carefree, and for the Town itself as we all work together to keep our community vibrant, relevant and beautiful.
Thanks again.
