Thanks for getting this out. One correction, the photo is of me and Lt. Col. Pratt Ashworth. You might recall he spoke and spoke at Memorial Day.

Hi Lyn,
The photo captioned "Captain Richard Noreika and Vice Mayor John Crane" actually shows the commander of the American Legion Post.

(Lyn's note: I got corrections from both John and Wes. I was rushing to get the issue out on Monday night and I grabbed the wrong photo out of the ones Herbert took. My apologies. Here is a photo of Captain Noreika.)

Thank you to all of the veterans and their families who joined us at the 10th Carefree Veterans Day celebration, and for all that you have done.
This program came together thanks to the support and hard work of the many people who volunteered their time and energy to make the event memorable. We will long remember US Navy Captain Richard Noreika’s reflections on the Pledge of Allegiance, US Army Major Arlen Rowley’s recollections of his time as a Korean War POW and US Air Force Captain Suzanna Ausborn’s resilience, despite losing her husband and father to war. This year, as usual, Barbara Hatch and the Veterans Heritage Project, along with Ashley Walker, who sang the National Anthem, the Cesar Chavez Jr. ROTC color guard, Carefree Kiwanis, Carefree Roastery, the local chapter of the Daughter’s of the American Revolution, the Association of the US Army, the Arizona Youth Leadership Council Phoenix Chapter, and the Military Family Support Fund teamed up to make the day a success.
As we look back on our 10th Carefree Veterans Day celebration, I would be remiss not recalling that the program began with an idea and the hard work of Susan Vanik and was further nurtured by Arthur Gimson, and that Ted Dimon has masterfully served as the MC from the first program.
And last, but not least, Lyn and Herb, thank you for the tireless hours assembling the video, photos and transcripts of the event.
We hope you’ll join us at next year’s program.

Vice Mayor, Town of Carefree
Congratulations, Carefree, on what looks to have been a wonderful Veteran's Day celebration. Thank you Captain Noreika, for your service. Well done Vice Mayor Crane. Semper Fi!

Dear Lyn:
I cannot remember Marcelle Chase's Veteran's Day speech, and wonder if you have a copy you could forward. I' m not good at watching film on my computer, but love to read it and would love to do,so if you have a copy!
Thank you,
Jim Raymond
(Lyn's note: I sent the link to that newsletter to Jim. For others who would like to read it and/or watch the video of Marcelle speaking, here is the active link.

As Arthur wrote in last week's Letters, she was a fabulous, and very different, keynote speaker. Jim's reaction to Marcelle's speech is below. She has a strong accent, so he had trouble understanding her, but if you can deal with accents, I would strongly advise you to click on the video. The raw emotion she displays is worth the 17-1/2 minute watch. We give our thanks to Susan Vanik, Arthur Gimson, and John Crane for the excellent Carefree Veteran's Day programs they have, in turn, produced.)
Thank you very much, Lyn! Few of us have ever lived through anything like this. We are blessed beyond our ability to know how much others suffered.
Unfortunately, the vcr sound is too difficult for me to understand, but reading the story was certainly an experience I will always remember.

If you know anybody with any cracked ceramic pieces or pottery, I'll definitely take it. I love gluing the stuff back together and repainting it different colors. I never sell it, I just give it away, and it's a nice little fix for me. I look for sales on spray paint and try to get creative. vinced4242@gmail.com
