The just concluded Enchanted Pumpkin Garden event was a tremendous success. Our best estimate was that over 100,000 people attended this event, coming to Carefree from all over the Valley. We received many, many comments about how much they loved Carefree, and how thrilled they were with the creativity on exhibition. Many said that it was one of the few things that brought a smile to their face. One of the most frequent comments we received at the Information Booth was from people who were now visiting Carefree to participate in the Enchanted Pumpkin event for their third or fourth year in a row, and how they had now convinced their friends and neighbors to come to it with them because they raved about it so much.
The new event footprint, which broadened the vendor tents down Ho Hum Road towards Spanish Village, enabling us to open up Easy Street to people walking, parking and vehicles driving through, was well received as well. Many of our fine restaurants and retailers participated in the event, with some outstanding results being reported. The new activities for families with kids, including the “Kid’s Zone” with the haunted house, a petting zoo and pony rides, broadened the appeal of the event. The “Singing Pumpkins” were also a big attraction with many.
The upcoming schedule of events in the Downtown Carefree is very strong, and we would like to encourage every one of Carefree’s restaurants and retailers to talk with us about different ways that you could tie an and use the traffic generated by these events to help build your business. These upcoming events include:
- Carefree’s 10th annual Veterans Day event honoring all of our Veterans and their families on November 11th
- The lighting of the Carefree Christmas Tree ceremony on November 30th, followed by a showing to the movie “The Polar Express,” for free in the Sanderson Lincoln Pavilion, with free hot coco and cookies (and a silver bell as the first gift of Christmas for all of the participating kids)
- The Celebration of Christmas in Carefree & Holiday Happenings December 7th - 9th
- The Celebration of Chanukah December 2nd - 9th with a Menorah lighting each evening at 5 PM
Call either Beth Renfro or Les Peterson at 488-3686 and let’s work together to develop a program to use these and other events we have planned to help build your business. We would look forward to the opportunity to work together with you.
Thank you, and even though it a bit early, may we be among the first to wish you a “Happy Holidays.”

Please Carefree folk;
Don't forget the eleven Jewish people killed in Pittsburgh, and those injured. Please take a moment to say a prayer for their community to quickly heal. Take a moment out of what we have to be grateful for in our Joy, and remember their persecution which is still going on in the world.

(Lyn's note: That was so terrible and sad. I'm glad we added the Chanukah celebration to our Christmas Festival.)

Herbert and Lyn said if you would like to use the pictures in any publications, feel free. Simply right click on the picture you wish to save and share away!!!
We really appreciate the support of the Kiwanis Club of Carefree members, Paula Scully, Dr. Burdick, Canon Stephen Dart, Mayor Peterson, and the amazing David Simmons (https://ubuproject.org/staff-bios) for their time and assistance in making the BEE successfully come together.
Again, thank you and please share the above links (ubu project is great for all schools) with PTOs, businesses, and community members who donated to the event to make it such a successful fundraiser for people in need in our very own community.
Sincerely,
Cara (and the entire PIE Committee)
