Correction:
In Carefree Truth, Issue #598, I wrote, "The current plan is a request for 23 homes. This is not a request for an up-zoning, but rather for a density transfer within the property."
and
"With the density transfer requested (again, not a re-zoning, as the number of homes on the property would not increase)..."
I learned last night that this is incorrect. While the request, which has yet to be submitted to the Town, would trigger a density transfer on the 100 acre property in north Carefree, leaving approximately 50 acres designated as Open Space and the 23 homes allowed on the 100 acres moved to the other approximately 50 acres, it would also require a re-zoning to amend the lot sizes. My apologies for my misunderstanding. I thought if the number of homes remained the same, a re-zoning was not required. I was wrong.
Coincidentally, the Desert Foothills Land Trust sent out a public statement about this property yesterday and asked that it be distributed. Our regular Letters from Readers begins below the DFLT information.

Hi Lyn:
Great Trunk or Treat photos! Herb outdid himself again. And, kudos to Bella Donna & Cane Boutique for taking the initiative and sponsoring such a fun event.
Best regards,

Lyn,
Thank you for keeping us informed and allowing readers to post their comments. While I applaud Arthur's support for Gary Neiss, an initiative to create a property tax for Carefree, is NOT the sole decision of our town administrator and would be vigorously opposed by myself and many members of our community. There are many others ways we can accomplish the same end, i.e. increasing town revenues, lowering expenditures, etc., and we are implementing that strategy now.
Regarding the Foothills Trolley, that would connect our two communities, Carefree and Cave Creek, on weekends during the tourist season, if both towns are able to provide 2/3rd's support and the private business community the remaining 1/3 through a Public-Private Partnership, we can accomplish preferred trolley stops for our merchants for much less than $500 per stop, and drive that marketing expense to only $250 per month. In addition, Merchants will have the opportunity to advertise their business both in and outside the Trolley through signage and brochure racks.
Thank you again for offering a voice to our community.
Best wishes,
Michael Farrar

(Lyn's note: Arthur Gimson wrote about Gary Neiss because John Traynor specifically attacked Mr. Neiss. Mr. Traynor falsely claimed, which he's been doing for many years, that Mr. Neiss wants to impose a local property tax. Mr. Traynor has long been obsessed with this theory of his, and wrong as it is, he consistently doubles down on it. John Traynor has a lot of anger against a lot of people, one of whom is Gary Neiss.)
Hi Lyn & Herb-Thank you very much for the beautiful ad -Harry Vardakis
Lyn,
Once again you and Herbie posted a remarkable collection of photographs for this year’s festival!!! I think Ray and team outdid themselves.
Gina said it grew again this year…. Create it and they will come…and from everywhere, all ages to enjoy. It seems some town folk still don’t see the value, but “Carefree” is on many a lips.
Thank you for capturing the event; it is one of a kind for sure.
Always,
LeAnda Merrihew
(Lyn's note: LeAnda was the one who originally pitched the idea of a Carefree Pumpkin Festival. Gina ran with it, bringing Ray Villafane, the world's top pumpkin carver, on board. We have both LeAnda and Gina to thank for launching the Festival!)
WOW! Herbert's pictures are amazing.

Amazing!!! I sent my pictures of the pumpkins out on face book. Every one loved them and were amazed at the detail. Thanks Lyn. Jan K.
My wolfguy Na-Nuk asked me Tuesday if he could go “trick or treating”. I told him that sounds like fun and I know just the placed to go. I loaded him up and we went to Carefree for the Pumpkin Festival in the sundial plaza. The decorations were so cute and they had the street blocked off for the kids with folks lined up in their cars and trucks passing out treats. There were many dogs out there of all sizes mostly all well behaved. However Na-Nuk was the only one like him and as usual the center of attention! He is always soo good with little humans and well behaved dogs. So many folks ask me “what is he … a wolf”? I just told them he was actually my Greyhound and he wanted to dress as a wolf for Halloween. He had a great costume .. really looked like a wolf! We had a real fun evening and Na-Nuk was really a good ambasawolf for the breed. Herb Hitchon took some pictures of him. Na-Nuk had really big paws to fill when my PR wolf dog Parker crossed over, but Parker trained him
well!
Howls!
John Braden
(Lyn's note: John has been the 501(c)3 wolf rescue guy in Arizona for many years, and is a dear friend of mine. Na-Nuk is a very high content wolf/husky mix, and a sweet boy, as was Parker. Both have been to Carefree for breakfasts with Angel. John and I are just The Things At The Other End Of The Leashes.)

Good morning , here is something you can share with the non-profits.
I met with you here about a week ago regarding a donation for the upcoming calendar project. I was able to find more information on how to officially submit a request for a donation, and it is very easy! We have a separate department which specializes in these requests. Simply go to
https://www.wellsfargo.com/about/charitable/az_guidelines and apply under the "How to Apply" section. After applying, someone will then contact you about your request.
Thank you!
