Correction:
After checking directly with the Elections Department, there are only 2 parts of the Statute (which is admittedly not very clearly written) about which they really care: No large political signs on the street Right's of Way, and no door-to-door political solicitations until 60 days prior to the primary election. I was incorrect about posters on the store windows, or at least it's not anything very important to the Elections Department and not something they enforce. I apologize.
Herbert and I had just not wanted to see any of our businesses risking fines from the Elections Department, as there are people who are offended enough by the sheer number of political signs for Mike Farrar that they feel are cluttering the town center that a few had looked up the Statute and talked about going to the Elections Department to complain. Herbert had been asked to take pictures, which is why we know this. Those pictures were not for the purpose of punishing the businesses; they were simply to demonstrate when and how many of Mike Farrar's posters were on display around Carefree.
Someone contacted me who felt I was "threatening the businesses". We were not. Herbert and I were concerned for all of you. We want the Carefree businesses to succeed. This is why we give you free advertising, some of which uses photos taken by Herbert. We really try for you, and if you sell what we buy, we buy it from you. We do appreciate and support our merchants.
Some businesses have asked us if they should put up candidate signs when asked. We have strongly advised against getting involved with any part of anything political at ANY level EVER. It's bad for business. Some people are going to be upset no matter whose signs you post, at what political level. There are still people who refuse to speak to friends and relatives over differences in preferences in the 2016 Presidential election. Politics and religion have long been considered the 2 topics to avoid. There's a reason for that piece of wisdom.

Cheryl Kroyer is Running for Reelection
For the Carefree Town Council
For the Carefree Town Council
I first of all would like to thank the citizens of Carefree for allowing me to represent them the past two years. It is an honor and responsibility that I take very seriously. I have spent the better part of my term understanding the key issues affecting our Town and learning as much as I can. I have talked to people on both sides of each issue to better understand the effect that my vote can have.Working hand in glove with the Town’s Marketing Director, I have been able to bring my 30 years of marketing experience to the process. We have helped bring tourists to Town, aided in the economic development and revitalization, and have helped our businesses and residents enjoy all that is good about doing business and living here.
I have been the liaison between the Town and our businesses, keeping them informed of our activities through regular communication. I have tried to address and solve any of their problems that are in my (the Town’s) power.
I am committed to continuing to work for water service for all of our residents and to revitalize our Town Center, all while keeping Carefree the place that attracted us all here in the first place.
I hope that I have earned your trust and would like your vote in the upcoming election in August.
I would also heartily endorse and urge you to reelect Mayor Peterson. He has proven to be a leader who is honest, has a vision and gets things done. We are already seeing success from some of the programs he has put in place. We need to stay on that strategy and keep building and strengthening our Town.
Thank you for your consideration.
Hi Lyn, you need to make a correction I never said shame to Mike Farrar at the end it was directed to Mike Wright Town attorney for his embarrassing show called prosecution of Mike Farrar.
Glenn Miller
(Lyn's note: Sorry for the misunderstanding. Glenn Miller was talking about his dislike of what he felt was using the Council meeting to campaign. Mike Farrar was one the speakers who are running. Mr. Miller only said, "Mike". He supports Mike Farrar.)
Lyn,
Below is an explanation of the road construction currently taking place on Scottsdale Road/Tom Darlington,
Les Peterson
Why is there road Construction on Scottsdale Road/Tom Darlington?
The road construction just starting on Tom Darlington and running south into Scottsdale Road is to construct a larger pipeline connection from the Liberty Utilities sewer system servicing Carefree into the Scottsdale Sewer system for processing. In order to accomplish this road construction as fast as possible, the plans are to start it at both the North and south ends, and basically meet in the middle. This road construction should be completed by Fall, 2018.
As to why this is happening, in the 1970’s and 1980’s, Carefree residents basically utilized individual septic systems, with a few – mostly within the Boulders - connected to a sewer system which utilized a small “pocket” wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) with the overflow contracted to flow into the Scottsdale Sewer System. This sewer system grew over time, and by the early 2000’s all of the sewage from Carefree residential homes on a sewer system and Carefree commercial accounts were utilizing it. At about that time, this system was acquired by Liberty Utilities.
Over the years, some 200 – 300 residential homes were built within a few hundred feet of the WWTP. This was in the years before real estate disclosure statutes required that a pertinent disclaimer be placed in the sales documents for each property. Occasionally, many of these homes were recipients of strong sewer odors and noise/ground vibrations so intense that these residents were unable to use their homes.
After a twelve year battle, started by Les Peterson when he was President of the Boulders HOA and continued during his tenure on the Carefree Town Council, and with a host of involved parties and governmental agencies including multiple legal actions before the Arizona Corporation Commission going all the way to the Arizona Supreme Court, the WWTP was ordered to be closed in November, 2018. After that date all of the effluent from this system, now servicing the majority of Carefree, was required to be sent directly to Scottsdale for processing at their large WWTP near Pima Road and Frank Lloyd Wright.
The Carefree WWTP closure process is currently underway to meet the required timing in the settlement with the Corporation Commission. Securing this closure agreement by the Fall, 2018 timing enabled Carefree residents on the Liberty Utilities system to save between $2.5 to $3.0 million dollars versus what costs would have been had we not met this timing window.
This will be a permanent solution to the Carefree wastewater processing and disposal situation. Contracted processing capacity in Scottsdale is sufficient to handle Carefree’s needs all of the way through build-out and into the future. Future rates will now be more closely tied directly to those incurred by the far larger and more efficient Scottsdale sewer processing system rather than a small Carefree system which was nearing the end of its lifecycle.
(Lyn's note: Here's a wonderful one by our local songwriter/poet/philosopher, Phil, in honor of Father's Day.)
I'm glad Herb captures these events. He's doing an extraordinary service for the residents so that things won't be selectively taken out of context. People need to be informed regardless of where their support lies. Thanks Dr Herb!

Dear Lyn,
I’ve enjoyed your reports of the current silly season at our Town Council. It puts me in mind of what my granddad on my father’s side used to say: "Life is like a ‘tator farm. And on this farm there are different kinds of ‘tators. There are the spec-tators—these are good folks just trying to get through the day, but not overly involved in others' business. Also on the farm are some agi-tators—they criticize a whole bunch, usually to make themselves think they’re important, and never getting it that criticism is never contribution. Finally on the ‘tator farm there are the participa-tators—they’re in the thick of things trying to get something worthwhile done and helping a lot of others along the way."
We’re blessed to have the work done by most of our Town Council members, and by all of the stellar town staff who have earned A+ in the quality of their work over many years. In B school I remember being taught that conflict has to be managed and to limit troublemakers early. Parliamentary rules like limits on speaking time and quickly calling issues to a vote can help. One thing’s for sure, as my other grandpappy observed: "You can’t win a pissin’ match with a skunk.” So for the true participa-tators, forget the arguing, call the vote, or take it to a judge. Don’t waste your stomach lining on skunks.
Best,
Clay Sherman
Mayor Peterson and John Crane are a perfect fit with Carefree. They are hard working, well versed in what they undertake and seek only perfection for we who live here. They each have my vote, and being from Chicago, "early and often".
God bless you for giving your time to continue to make Carefree the envy of the Valley.
Joseph Corpora
I have never met any of the players involved in the Carefree political drama. I have read the articles and watched all of the videos for the last couple of months.
My family has been here in Arizona for 5 generations. Police, military, corporate executives, teachers, lawyers, political activists.
I have always found videos to be the most reliable form of documentation. The nuances of body language, inflections of the voice, tone of the voice and conversations. How well people work with others and diplomacy.
Mike Farrar has been on the Carefree council for 7 years and just during his last year when he knew term limits would come into play, all hell broke loose. Mike acts like a playground bully spreading lies and innuendos because he’s not going to get his way, because of some form of insecurity, to play king of the mountain.
7 years and now during election time he doesn’t want to get along with anyone other than John Traynor, Glenn Miller and The Sonoran News.
It’s time to step aside Mike. If your attitude against Carefree and how it’s being managed is blindly dysfunctional, you would cause an utter shut down on civility and progress.
Volunteer your time on projects that will help Carefree if you love the town so much. Not much power in volunteer work, but highly satisfying.
S. Martin
Lyn .. you are blessed with great patience. Thanks for your work on behalf of the citizens of Carefree.
Ron Hoffman
(Lyn's note: The June Council meeting was how we spent our 42nd anniversary. We hope a lot of people continue to view the videos. That would make it worthwhile if people get to see who's who and what's what. More than anything else, the videos provide that information.)
Reminds me of the Twilight Zone. I can hardly wait for the day after the re-election of the present and beloved mayor. At that point the good citizens of Carefree can hold the mother of all bonfires and get rid of these damned MF signs.
Laurie P.
(Lyn's note: The Twilight Zone sentence refers to John Traynor's Call to the Public speech.)
How sad. Looks to me we are right back where Carefree politics were in the Bob Coady era.
Bob H.
MORE POWER TO YOU AND HERBIE.

CAREFREE IS VERY LUCKY 2 HAVE U BOTH!!!
RESPECTFULLY,
