Mr. Smith, a teacher at Black Mountain elementary, lost his son in a car accident. Joseph Smith was a 2016 graduate of Horizon High School.
Mr Smith was a huge role model and looked up to greatly by both my boys in elementary school. We live in a very tight community where everyone knows everyone and our hearts are all hurting for the Smith family. They are raising funds for the services.

Phil’s comments are on the mark. I especially agree with:
A village has a sense of place about it; a feeling that we are connected to the land and the people who share that land and adapt to the natural environment.
We should use native vegetation with the expectation that if the water truck needs to provide an assist at first, this vegetation will eventually survive independent of us.
Best regards,

Hi, Lyn:
I went to see the sand sculpture today. It is wonderful. While I was there I met an elderly couple who had driven up from Phoenix expressly to see it. She said she had learned about it from the Food Channel. They asked what other attractions Carefree had to offer. They didn't want to go play in the splash pad. I suggested shopping and eating. They were looking for something else so I invited them back for all the activities this fall. They did walk around the gardens. I suggested everything was slower in the entire Phoenix area during the hot months. They had to agree.
I'm taking a friend to see the elephant on Saturday and we are having lunch at Venues. We've been trying to get together all season.
Regards......................Marie Christensen
Thanks for all you do! With your well written works and Herbie's amazing photography I feel as though I'm right there in the moment! (The sand sculptures are just one example. I could almost smell and feel the sand).

What a magnificent town we have! And you showcase it for us every day!! Thank you for what you do for ALL of us Lynn. XOXO Jane Ceasor
It is amazing how much the DFFY does. Much of what they do is under the radar. Most citizens have no idea and think it only a place to exercise and think of the YMCA song.

Mr Mayor, Mr Vice Mayor and Council.
I'm writing you today asking for the towns help in putting in a painted crosswalk from Carefree Studios to directly across the street lower Mariachi plaza. There are approximately 50 folks that work in the Carefree Studios and many of us patronize the new Carefree Coffee Roastery located directly across the street in the lower portion of Mariachi plaza next to Alberto's. (best coffee in town). These street crossings happen on a daily basis and throughout the day. I've attached a testimonial from one of my employees of an incident that happened May 17th. I've also attached a picture of the proposed crosswalk.
In addition, I would like to point out that from the intersection of Tom Darlington and Cave Creek Road heading west towards the Cave Creek line, there is no speed limit sign. Frequently, cars coming from that corner are easily doing 40 MPH by the time they pass our driveway. As you can imagine, crossing the street can be a challenge. Would like to see two 25 MPH speed limit signs posted one east and one west bound if possible.
Further, this painted crosswalk doesn't need to be anything fancy. No bells buzzers or lights, just some strips would be great.
I would be happy to meet any of you to go along for a test walk and coffee with me for a real live experience.
Thank you for your consideration.

Hi Lyn...!!
Not sure where to go with this, but as much as I travel around "The Valley" I can't tell you how many times I walk in a men's room to find the water running, not because the person before me didn't turn it off but because of a faulty valve. I will always tell someone at the counter but I'm sure they care as much about it as saving the spotted owl. Many of these places have a manager who isn't an owner and they don't really care either, unless they are accountable for the increase in the water bill; not likely.
My point is this, someone some how should come up w a way the state, county or local government has a tax break for plumbing directly related to leaking faucets/toilets in restrooms. I tried to calculate how much water is wasted daily and couldn't begin, but it's massive amounts. And one store alone isn't much, but 500 is and I'd bet you $1,000.00 right now there are >500 leaking this moment! That's a LOT of water down-the-drain!
Their is no easy fix and unfortunately we, as humans don't necessarily become proactive to problems until they are biting us in the butt. This is a problem I'd prefer to not bit me in the butt!
Here's a thought: AZ has HARD-WATER. And we know valves etc get lot's of calcium buildup, corrode and start to fall apart within 2 - 3 years; I see it every day! Maybe we find a way to get these inspected and replaced (with a tax credit)? Obviously I haven't thought the details, but perhaps someone will have a thought or idea how to do this without being too "BIG BROTHERish".
Just for S&G, figure $65.00 a valve to be replaced and if you replace one, you replace two. 2 X $65.00 = $130.00 With a tax credit of 30% it looks like this: $130 X 30% = $39.00. So for a whopping $91.00 a business can and should have new fixtures every three years. I'd venture to guess it costs a LOT more than $100.00 a month to have water running non-stop 24/7...
BTW, I'm not a plumber and I have zero interest for myself here, it's just a problem I see daily and thought I'd start the ball rolling!

Lyn ( my partner),
I know your main focus is Carefree. I would like to thank someone in Cave Creek who means a lot to many Carefree residents, Especially me.
The people are the management and technicians at Tobias automotive specialists.
My son Joseph A purchased their old courtesy car at a very good price. After the title was signed over and the car was paid for he asked Chuck Barrett (the manager at Cave Creek ) about a warranty. Chuck said don't worry we will take care of any problems for the next thirty days, and with a handshake, we left.
Well, two days later the car over heated and Joe (my Son), took it to Tobias. They worked on it for several days and found the radiator to have a blockage . They replaced the radiator, checked it out, and Joe picked it up. Joe and Chuck shook hands again.
Isn't it wonderful to know that a handshake and a promise still means something.
Thank You Andy and Louise for fostering the atmosphere that makes a handshake, mean "we got you covered Chuck"
Joseph & Joseph Corpora
(Lyn's note: Joe Sr. is my partner in the Carefree Desert Gardens Photo Contest, hence the greeting. We also love Tobias Automotive and were one of their first customers when they opened in Cave Creek many years ago. We have some older cars, and we joke that we put Andy's kid through college. Ha!)
Celebrate Independence Day early at one of the Valley’s biggest parties! Cave Creek’s spectacular “3rd of July Fireworks Extravaganza” takes place after sunset on Sunday, July 3 and is being hosted by Harold’s Corral, 6895 E. Cave Creek Rd., Roadhouse, 6900 E. Cave Creek Rd., and The Horny Toad, 6738 E Cave Creek Rd., in Cave Creek.
The festive, family-friendly celebration starts at 5 p.m. with live music, kid’s activities, food and drink specials at all three restaurants and great seating to view the fireworks, which begin after sunset behind Harold's. A free shuttle service will be available to transport people around town from 6 p.m. to midnight.

At Harold’s Corral, reserved seats outside are available for $15 for a two-top, $20 for a four-top and $35 for a 10-top. While admission is free at Harold’s, it does not include game zone activities or food. Harold’s outside bar and BBQ will be cash only, and ATMs will be onsite. Guests to Harold’s also can help The Foothills Food Bank by donating canned goods or money, and those making a donation that night will be entered to win a prize.
Guests can bring lawn chairs to The Horny Toad for optimal viewing on their patio. The Roadhouse, which recently opened a larger outside patio, is also hosting a special “Freedom Fest” event from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. featuring a variety of vendors in their parking lot.
As in previous years, live music will be a big part of the night. Hillbilly Deluxe and Desert Dixie will perform at Harold’s Corral, Poppy and the Usual Suspects will perform at Roadhouse, and The Horny Toad will feature Cave Creek Legends Band.
