Gene Orrico is proud to declare his candidacy to continue as a member of the Carefree Town Council. Gene accepted the post of Councilman in the early Spring of 2015 when positions were vacated due to the illness and resignation former Mayor David Schwan and former Councilman Marty Saltzman.
Gene and his wife Victoria have been full time residents of Carefree since 2011. As a small business owner and resident of Carefree, Gene strongly supports the revitalization of the town while maintaining the unique benefits of residency here. He is an advocate for the enhancement of the downtown area and believes in the use of strategic marketing to help attract a larger and more diverse stream of visitors to Carefree.
Among the many charities and organizations he and his wife have been a part of over the years, Gene is especially proud to have donated hundreds of hours to the Kiwanis Club. He is currently Vice President and member of the Board of Directors of the local chapter, and is also an integral part of the Carefree Kiwanis Acktion Club, which provides programs for autistic young adults.
Gene believes in leadership by doing. His focus is to utilize his unique set of education, skills and experience to vigorously work towards enhancing the lives of all residents and visitors to Carefree by bringing new growth and opportunities to the community.
He is very proud to have been a part of the many new programs implemented in Carefree since taking office. He strongly believes that the Town can continue to offer services to the residents without the need to institute a property tax. His priority as a Councilman is to assist in the achievement of the goals set forth by the Town Council while adhering to the current budget.
How cool to read all of the comments about the sculpture! I'm so glad people are enjoying it. The video is magical! The music is a perfect choice. Thank you for the labor of love and time you put into creating this wonderful video.
Sue
(Lyn's note: Sue Beatrice was the sculptor who worked with Ray Villafane on the elephant sand sculpture in the Gardens. Here's the video Herbert put together for those of you who missed it. It shows the process start to finish.)

Chessie Trunkston's Carefree Chess Match
I hope the Town Council gives Gina a round of "atta-girls" for this one. She was there with Ray every night that I took Molly to meet her dog buddies...and I do that 5 or 6 times a week. That is above and beyond service to the town in my book. She deserves the recognition. 3 million views on Facebook multiplied by 70K shares of the sculpture and resulting brand recognition for Carefree has more value then we could possibly afford to purchase. The investment made in Ray and his work has been worth every penny and then some. And at the center of it all stands Gina.
Cheers.

After a busy day I'm reading this email and I want you to know that I appreciate your sentiments. This town deserves to be treated as a priority, and it's residents like yourselves who make it all worth it. Ray and I are stewards to this beautiful town and feel honored to be part of it.
Thanks for your involvement.
Hello Lyn,
I have been trying to take the picture of the elephant several times with my phone and the iPad but I could never do it justice. Herbie just got the perfect picture. Thank him for being such a master at photography. I was hoping I could send the image to my friends, far and wide, but with my efforts they could never get the whole image of this marvelous work. Now I can really show them in Houston, Canada (my sister lives there) Ashland and assorted other places what fun things we get to experience in Carefree.
These are so beautiful I am impressed every time I see another of Herbie’s pictures. I have not met him but I admire his art so much. Even more so since he is a rare breed of physicians who is good at something other than medicine and golf. I am very grateful you are willing to share his art. I sent the elephant video to my best friend in Houston and she was so surprised that we have such a vibrant artistic environment in such a tiny town.
Again, please tell your husband that we are truly impressed with his photo art. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Amazing!!!!!! Jan
This is excellent, Lyn! I enjoyed watching the whole sequence. Of course, I've seen the finished work, but it's nice to see it as it came along. Since I didn't get a chance to see it all happening, it's nice to know who was involved. And the sculpture is wonderful, original, and funny! Good for Herbie to have documented the progress.

That was great and the film was very professional and entertaining as always. By the way what is it made of and did they do something to it to make sure it would last? I'd hate to see a work of art like that just crumble over time though it IS preserved in Herbie's film, thank goodness.
By the way it's no wonder the elephant lost. There is no way he could have moved those chess pieces with those feet. Just how my mind works...............
Joe Arkeat
(Lyn's note: It is made from Salt River silt, and the only bonding agent is water. Before the sculpting started, there was a 3 day compacting process using both machinery and manual labor, Ray and Travis being the manual labor, as you could see in the video. It was coated with a very thin layer of water and glue to help it last longer. It is expected to be there until sometime in August, at which point it will be knocked down and the silt stored for use in the next sculpture.)
Went by this early afternoon. Still looks incredible - Starting to dry out. It will be sad to see it go.
Joe DeVito
(Lyn's note: Ray was there on Thursday night watering it, and a thin coating of water and glue will be placed on it soon, if it hasn't been done already. It's expected to last through August.)
Thanks. Sounds right. Truly enjoy looking at it. Gotta smile.
Joe
Lyn:
It was an honor to see Katya’s nose as the lead picture in your 6/1/16 issue. If Dr. Herbie makes a calendar benefiting FAR and FETCH, I will have a hard time deciding whether to stick with the Desert Gardens calendar or switch.

Hi Lyn,
Would it please be possible to send out an email. My friend is trying to help this female bulldog 2 years old find a home or foster asap. NO young kids, NO other dogs. She must be an only pet.
She is up to date on shots and getting spayed on June 11th. Please contact Dawn at Rehome (623) 451-8032.
Thank you so much.
