Below is a link about the Drone Light Show being put on tonight at Civana and co-sponsored by the Town of Carefree. Our Mayor Les Peterson was on the national CBS News! It takes a minute for the video at the right hand side to load, but Mayor Peterson talks to the reporters twice.

(Lyn's note: The "Next Generation Fireworks" Drone Light Show at Civana (formerly the Carefree Resort, on Mule Train Rd.) is free. Parking is in the 2 parking lots on either side of the resort, and in the parking spaces across the street. I suspect that, like the usual fireworks in Cave Creek that were cancelled, people will be parked all along the side of the street too.)
I attended the water meeting last Tuesday evening. It was very informative and although I have been brushing up on all of the issues and have had many meetings so far, I learned some new things.
But the best thing about the evening was how knowledgeable and well prepared Les Peterson was. There could be no doubt at the end of the evening that this man is the one who can solve our water problems. There is simply no way that Mike Farrar can get up to speed on this issue in a few months and provide the leadership needed to solve it.
I think that Les probably earned the vote of everyone in the room (with the exception of a few die hard Mike Farrar supporters). Those who were there will share the information with their neighbors and friends.
I believe it was a very, very good night for our Mayor. There should be no doubt about who the leader in our community should continue to be.

(Lyn's note: I thought I was up to speed on water, but I too learned new things at that meeting. Mayor Les Peterson, former Vice Mayor Lloyd Meyer, and immediate past chair of the Cave Creek Water Advisory Committee Tony Geiger were passionate, interesting and very well prepared speakers. The room was packed and people were standing. I would encourage those who did not attend to attend the next meeting on July 9th.)
The best of luck Mayor Peterson. Well Done !!!!!!!

(Lyn's note: Re-the June water meeting. As a member of the Sentinel Rock BOD, I sent out an email to the residents of my development and to contacts in a couple of other developments, encouraging them to attend the one in July if they missed the first one.)
Hello Lyn,
I was able to attend the meeting last week and it was an eye opener. Well-presented and really good information. I was very impressed on how Carefree is approaching this issue and Heather and I will be fully supporting this.
Thanks for the update…

God bless Mayor Peterson. We are one of those 526 homes on Cave Creek Water and don’t like it one bit. We live in Carefree and pay taxes here. All residents deserve to be on that water system and not be penalized by Cave Creek’s; excuse me – blowing it. Thank you for this email!

(Lyn's note: These are just 2 of the many emails I got on this subject. Those who attended the June meeting were impressed by the presentation given and expressed gratitude to Mayor Peterson for his knowledge of the subject and his commitment to this venture. Many more said they intend to go to the one on July 9th, and/or have sent emails to Town Hall expressing their support for moving the Carefree residents on Cave Creek Water over to the Carefree Water Company.)
Working in health insurance the past 20 years, I know the benefit of pooling and am in full support of this model for our town staff. I think whomever was responsible for suggesting this should be applauded. Kandace, if it was you, nice going. Self-funded plans can get a little scary if its a bad year or if it's a small pool (under 100) in the plan, but if you have over 200 employees participating overall, then the risk can be spread and managed well. I like the Blue Cross PPO network as well. Nice job.

“The current deductible per person is $750 and per family $1500. Under RAGHT, the deductible per person is $350 and per family $1050.” My deductible, as an individual, is 20X higher. This week my window washer retired at 59. Town staff has a health insurance plan I can only dream of. I’m in the wrong line of work.
Best regards,

I met a neighbor at Basha’s late yesterday afternoon. She said she hopes Farrar gets so beat, he leaves town. I told her his leaving town should be easy since he does not own his home, but lives in his mother’s house. He can just pack up and leave. She was very surprised, noted he has nothing at stake in the Town and said she’ll keep that in mind when speaking about the Mayor race. She was so surprised, it was almost comical.
This small fact of homeownership resonates with those of us who have worked hard, own our own home and consider homeownership a basic metric of success. Plus, who at 60 years old lives in their mother’s house?

Could there be a more appropriate picture for my last day in Town? If I did one thing right this photo sums it all up. J
THANK YOU all for your friendship and support in this fabulous journey we call the “Carefree life”.
I will always have fond memories of each and every one of you!
See you in October (if not sooner).
Signing off…

Interesting. Mike Farrar seems to have the reoccurring theme of making things better for Carefree, which is odd since everything was OK. His perceptions are really odd...
Laurie P.
Lyn,
Wouldn’t it be nice if newsletters did just that—report on the news and leave out the “he said/she said” content. I appreciate that there are differences of opinions and selective perceptions as to various issues and they should be addressed appropriately. The point is your readership, myself included, are not and should not be the arbitrator of those issues.
I have been a Carefree resident since 1994, served on the Planning commission and have followed the “politics” of the Town Council with interest for that period of time. Perhaps it is in keeping with the national trend but the current state of finger pointing and accusatory rhetoric that seems to permeate Carefree politics borders on the ridiculous.
Perhaps it is an archaic position that the sole job of the Town Council is to represent the entire Carefree Community, but at the end of the day that is why they were elected. It also means that opposing viewpoints to the Council’s collective or individual opinions are entitled to a fair hearing. And, I think you will agree, when those opposing viewpoints are reported on, the reporting should be without bias. As an example, I appreciate your view, which you are entitled to, regarding term limits. On the other hand, I would posit that term limits do not limit a voters choice but rather expands a voters choice by creating an, albeit forced, opportunity for diversity of leadership. The point is that a discourse on term limits or any other area of disagreement can and should be conducted without malice or recrimination. An idea we should all adhere to.
John Nimsky
(Lyn's note: I agree with John Nimsky that newsletters should just be news. The newsletters in Carefree Truth are simply reports, and the text follows the accompanying uncut videos of the Council meetings. Perhaps Mr. Nimsky is not on John Traynor's email list for his newsletter, and is unaware that it is filled with paranoia and bile. Mr. Traynor has frequently lied about Carefree Truth and has written some quite vicious statements about me personally. We have seen in the past that if he and others who act this way are not called out on their lies, they feel they are getting away with it and they escalate the bad behavior. The letters from our readers are editorial, as is normal for letters in news publications. Mr. Traynor does not publish Letters from Readers. The editorializing is all his, and is contained in his newsletters.
Mr. Nimsky and I can agree to disagree on term limits, respecting and recognizing the validity of each point of view. Life is not black and white. My concern is that there would not be enough qualified new people willing to volunteer for an unpaid position that requires fairly long hours and a lot of work to do it correctly. This election and the previous one had 6 people running for 6 Council seats. The one before these had 7 people running for 6 seats. Of these last 3 elections, this is the first one that has had 2 people running for mayor. People are not lining up for these unpaid positions. We are lucky to have a man of Vince D'Aliesio's caliber volunteering to run, but what happens if we find ourselves in a position where there are not enough new candidates to fill the seats? This is not a far fetched scenario, and is why the State law disallows term limits in small towns.)
How very disappointing to learn from Mike Johnson’s letter that Scottsdale doesn’t plan to do anything in the next two years about Carefree Highway other than what they have done to date.
It was my hope that the addition of a right-turn lane on to 60th Street was to start after Scottsdale finished with the turn lanes for the various subdivisions. This is not the first time that Scottsdale has changed its mind. If I recall correctly, work should have started in 2016, but Scottsdale claimed to have needed funds for Pima Road. Right now, with school out, it’s not a problem. When school starts, just wait for the lines of school busses waiting to make that turn. Add the parents and students in their vehicles, plus the staff who work at the Cave Creek Unified School District offices and at the Holland Center and we are back to traffic hardly moving and polluting the air. Sometimes traffic is backed up west of 56th Street including blocking the right-turn lane for truck traffic accessing Walmart.
I do not buy the excuse about the traffic signal poles. They have plans that show every pole, utility box, sewer lines, gas and water pipelines.
Perhaps the Town Council can forward a resolution to ADOT, Maricopa County, MAG and the City of Scottsdale requesting action. Can the Town of Cave Creek do the same, they, too must have some of their residents needing to go to Scottsdale for work, medical appointments, etc.
