Lyn's note: Please feel free to send us any pictures you'd like included. If your photos are for sale, let us know and we will put them under that category. We have a special section for that purpose. If anyone would like to buy a print of any of Herbert's photos, all profits will be donated to one of the local non-profit organizations. Can hardly wait to come up and try the Bacan. It’s nice to see Spanish Village coming back to life!

Hi Lyn,
Are you able to clarify what's happening to the Carefree Post Office? I was shocked to hear someone say that it is closing in October but talked to someone connected to the post office and said it wasn't closing; just that the Government and Cave Creek is taking over and everything is changing. There is much confusion as many didn't know that this was going to happen. I was directed to a notice on the post office front door but the print is so small that many don't pay attention to it. Many of us are saddened.
You might have addressed this earlier and I may have missed it, but if you can offer any clarification, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Kevin Glenn
(Lyn's note: Just the opposite is true. In fact, the Carefree PO, which has been a substation of the Cave Creek PO and was run by a private company which was subcontracted by Cave Creek, is now becoming a full fledged post office of its own, which is why you were told the government is taking it over.)
This is very saddening to many of us as we've gotten to know the PO employees over the years. They are friendly and efficient and they have made the Carefree Post Office a very positive place to visit; not just to pick up our mail. I'm so sorry to hear this.
Kevin
(Yes, it will be sad to see the current private employees go. We all liked them. I hope the new ones will be as nice. Let's give them a chance too.
At Monday night's joint Council/P&Z meeting, Mayor Peterson made the announcement about the changes at the Carefree PO, and wanted to get information out as quickly as possible, since so many rumors were floating around, which is why I sent out the press release from the Town as our Monday's Carefree Truth issue when we got home from that meeting. The Mayor said the Post Office considered many options, including leaving Carefree altogether, but he was happy to announce that they decided to stay, and will be spending $350,000 on improvements. According to Councilman Gene Orrico, they have signed a 5 year lease with options for 2 more 5 year renewals, bringing it to 15 years. Here is the video on that from the meeting. https://vimeo.com/229784667)
