Lyn,
15 years ago tonight I was having sushi in mid-town NYC with Chris Platt, my sales engineer, We had been at the NY Stock Exchange all day and were getting ready for a meeting with Lehman Bro's on the 39th floor of WTC-1 in the morning....
Every year, I sit quietly and relive the horror of my day in Hell. I cry and pray for those who were lost and those who lost. I question and try to understand how and why, but it's like asking how big the universe is; no one know for sure!
All I ask of anyone is that we DO NOT FORGET 9-11... Pray, be thankful for our firefighters, police, 1st responders and our military!
Since 9-11 I have boycotted professional sports for 15 years now. I was sick to my stomach watching these children crying over $20,000,000.00 for a 2-year contract not being enough... WTHeck...? I passed firemen in the stairwell who get paid less than $60,000.00 a year walk up stairs to their deaths and not one complained. I'm a Former Marine and I know a LOT of former military; we do not complain, we do our jobs... So when I see some jerk like Colin Kaepernick or the Seahawks protest the very people who protect them; it sickens me, yet how is this for irony; I fought exactly for their freedom to do so.... That is a hard pill to swallow!
I'm off to the dog shelter in the morning but had to get this out on the eve of 9-11....
Feel free to share my story.
God bless, Godspeed and Semper Fi to our veterans...

I also hired veterans who came back from Middle East war. I felt they deserved being trained and paid well. They had great work ethics and followed instructions and appreciated being given the opportunity to learn a profession that paid well but was not available at colleges & universities.
They had PTSD and being out in the field and being able to talk to contractors and their crews helped them open up.
Good that your friend also supports vets. Right on brother!! And thank him for me.

Lyn,
In regard to readers' questions about what to plant in their desert landscapes, I would urge all interested residents, especially those new to the Valley, to attend the upcoming Carefree Garden Seminar Series which offers a wealth of information about environmentally responsible, water conserving horticulture through four monthly seminars scheduled from January through April. The seminars are held on Saturday mornings from 9:30 to approximately noon and this year will be held at the Speakeasy on Easy Street, located in the Post Office building. Attendees are encouraged to make a $5.00 donation at the door. We have a wonderful line -up of subjects scheduled, presented by speakers who are tops in their field. Our first seminar will be held on January 14, 2017 and the topic will be "Agaves as Living Sculptures". A plant raffle is also conducted at the end of each seminar.
For the past fourteen years the Seminar Series has provided quality presentations concerning responsible gardening education and water-wise horticulture information. It's the best bargain around and right in our own backyard! For more information on the Seminar Series, go to www.carefree.org and click on Carefree Desert Garden.
Thanks Lyn,
