The Guest Speaker will be Lieutenant Colonel Bob Jeffrey, U.S. Air Force Retired. He was flying an F-4 Phantom jet in Vietnam when he was captured in December of 1965. He was released and went home in August of 1973. He will share his experiences and perspective. He will also discuss how meaningful POW bracelets were to him and others.Someone from Our Lady of Joy will do the Invocation. The program will include two Sonoran Trails students singing the National Anthem and ‘American the Beautiful’, and there will be participation from American Legion Post #34 in Cave Creek and local Cave Creek Boy Scout Troop 603. Those who wore a POW bracelet and would like to share details of their experience are encouraged to contact Town of Carefree Communications Coordinator, Erica Shumaker at erica@carefree.org. Speakers will be given 1-2 minutes each.
Veterans Heritage Project (VHP) will be in attendance with VHP Chapter students from Cactus Shadows High School. They will display a student built veteran exhibit. VHP student veteran interviews compiled in books entitled “Since You Asked” will be on display and for sale. The Black Mountain Foothills Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will provide coffee and water.
Join us as our community comes together to pay tribute to those who have given their lives in service to our country.
The Saturday before the program, the Freedom Riders will place flags on the veterans' graves. Between now and then, Commander Dan of the American Legion Post #34 will go out and clean up the grave sites.
Before or after the program, take a moment at the Veterans Memorial in the Carefree Desert Gardens to pay your respects to all those veterans who have served.

Vice Mayor Crane also reported that Wheels & Wings raised over $7300 for the Foothills Caring Corps. It was a joint effort between the volunteers and the Town. Our Lady of Joy offered their parking lot, and Sky Ranch Airport hosted the event. These donations, and an event that drew from all aspects of the community, made it happen.
