Hampton Inn is one of the many brands of Hilton Hotels, for whom I worked for nearly 30 of my 40-plus years in the hospitality industry.
2019 is the 100th anniversary year since Conrad Hilton purchased his first hotel in May 1919, in Cisco, Texas. He had some cash after WW1 and being discharged from the US Army. He had tried to buy a bank, but the bank's owner wanted to change the terms of the sale. Conrad said, "No" and walked across the street and bought the hotel! In my early years with Hilton, “World Peace through Travel” was one of Conrad’s passions.
The hospitality industry is huge economic stimulus for cities and towns creating employment at all levels of the socio-economic community. There are countries around the world whose economies are dependent on travel and tourism. It does not impose burdens on the community with the need of additional schools, and other services, visitors arrive, sit a while, pay their bills and return to their homes. The sales tax dollars stay in town. Local merchants will benefit from the increased activity.

This week's restaurant review is on a dish I had at Venues Cafe. Their chicken picatta with seasonal veggies is both colorful and delicious!

If Carefree does this right (the Pumpkin Festival) it could be one of the great attractions in the Valley. It would draw people from all over the country, and be on the GPS as an attraction. But we have to charge. The fencing could be portable roll up fencing.
Town Council, don't let this one go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lyn- good write up. I appreciate Capt. Whelan's attitude as being 'worry about the stuff that really matters', 'not an army of occupation' & enforce the people's concerns, not your own. He seems like a guy concerned with keeping people safe & not worrying about the infractions that generate ticket revenue for revenue's sake. If this is the case, he will carry on MCSO's tradition of serving like a member of the community and not like a hired gun.
Excellent write up- thanks.

Hi Lyn,
The streets in our neighborhood look awful and have for quite a long time, even after being re-surfaced, so 85% seems like a generous percentage. Maybe we’re part of the 15% that doesn’t cut it. We don’t even have the beautiful new street signs that everyone else in Carefree has and some of us are feeling on the slightly neglected side.
