Hi Lyn,
I’ve just returned for the season and I’m enjoying the newsletter. But wanted to add 2 thumbs up for Alberto’s marmalade tart! What a unique gem that is! Thank you for the delicious picture and list of ingredients – but I think I’ll leave the magic of putting them together to Alberto’s!
Best regards,
Moddy McKeown
"Sound of Music" paired with a fantastic dining experience, what a great way to start the holiday season!

Lyn:
I see, from the latest issue to the Sonoran News, that John Traynor is spreading misleading and inaccurate information.
His letter states "To date, 80% of Carefree residents and businesses who currently comprise 100% of Carefree Water Company's customers have no voice in this matter."
Facts...as I understand them. According to the Carefree website, the Carefree population in 2016 was 3,580. I doubt if it has changed very much since then. There are 527 accounts, both business and residential, in Carefree being served by Cave Creek Water. It is reasonable to assume 2 persons per account. That would be 527 x 2 = 1,054. Remove those from the population (3,580 - 1,054 = 2.526), which would be about 70% of residents and businesses on Carefree Water Company.
More importantly, all residents and businesses in Carefree have had a voice since this matter started. It was the voices of Carefree residents being served water by the Cave Creek Water Company, water that did not meet Federal guidelines month after month, that wanted a change. These voices requested that Carefree take action. The Town responded following the procedures within the inter-governmental agreement. The Town hosted informational meetings open to the public (not just Carefree residents) who could ask questions about options, costs of studies by engineering consultants, etc. After all these meetings the Town Council authorized the procedures required. If I recall correctly, John Traynor attended many of those meetings. Some meetings lost focus of the reasons for the meeting as Cave Creek and Desert Hills water users learned of the poor management of Cave Creek Water.
Regarding the comment about "no voice in this matter", Carefree residents and businesses still have to opportunity to have their voices heard by participating in Council meetings. Based on what I hear around town the majority want all Carefree residents and businesses to be treated fairly and have clean and safe water delivered. Right now, 30% of water users, those on Cave Creek Water, are subsidizing the other 70%, by not getting any benefits from the cost of operations of the Carefree Water Company.

KIWANIS CLUB OF CAREFREE AWARDS $165,000 TO LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS
The Kiwanis Club and Foundation of Carefree is very pleased to announce our October 21, 2020 “Under the Misters” Awards Ceremony in Carefree, where we presented checks to a wide range of local organizations in our continuing recognition of the wonderful programs they do for our Community. In total over $165,000 was awarded that morning.
It was observed by all attending Kiwanis members, that the theme of “misters” continues to be appropriate for these meetings. As the checks were being awarded, the organizations’ leaders spoke passionately about what impact the Kiwanis’ support made to the children and the veterans receiving these donations. All acceptance remarks were very emotional.
There was not a dry eye in the house… all were “misty eyed”. All Kiwanians were immensely proud of the members’ efforts that went into generating these donated funds through the Marketplace to the local Community.
These are the organizations receiving funds that emotional morning:
Cave Creek Unified School District
Rancho Milagro Foundation
Desert Foothills Theater
Annunciation Catholic School
Lone Mountain Elementary School
Cactus Shadows High School
Jubilate Conservatory of Music
Scott Foundation
Desert Foothills Land Trust
Spirit In The Desert
Upscale Singers
Veterans Memorial
