"Thomas Jefferson said a democracy is dependent on an informed citizenry. I don't care whether it sounds corny or not. It's the truth." -Jim Lehrer

Gene Orrico
Gene Orrico is the only incumbent Council member on this list. In the last election for Mayor and Council, Mr. Orrico, while claiming to run as an "independent", actually ran with the losing Mayoral candidate Mike Farrar as a slate. Mr. Farrar rented a space in the 100 Easy Street building, where the Carefree Post Office is located, to house his campaign headquarters. A deal was struck with the landlord of the building wherein only Mr. Farrar and Mr. Orrico were allowed to campaign, not only within, but outside of that building. The Post Office building has been the traditional place for candidates to meet and speak with their constituents, but in that election they were banned from doing so.
Mr. Orrico chose to continue running for office with Mr. Farrar even after Mr. Farrar was thoroughly discredited. The link documenting Mr. Farrar's misdeeds is: http://carefreetruth2.com/carefree-truth-681.html
Mr. Orrico turned a blind eye to all of that and doubled down on his alliance with Mr. Farrar, rather than admitting to an error in judgement. This, in our opinion, shows not only bad initial judgment, but also an inability to admit to a mistake. We do not find either of these attributes to be desirable in a community leader.
