Having entire interior of house painted so we needed a place to stay nearby. Called Hampton Inn Carefree and cannot be more impressed with our stay. So clean, and so accommodating (we had to extend our stay). Can't help but believe it's going to be a great addition to the communities up here and hopefully drive a lot of sales to the local small businesses as well. Hampton Inn Carefree, Arizona

(Lyn's note: I am sending my sincere thanks to all of you who have wished me well and offered help during my time of back, knee, and shoulder health issues. I can't begin to tell you how much I appreciate all of you!
I would also like to praise Rural/Metro. When we dialed 911 and said it was a medical emergency, there were 5 R/M guys here within 4 minutes. They were not only very professional and efficient, they were also extremely nice. They got me up, put me in my computer chair with wheels, wheeled me to the front door, moved me onto a sling, carried me down the stairs outside, and slid me into the gurney in the waiting ambulance. One of the guys sat in back with me, monitoring my vitals. (He was a cute boy, on top of it!) Herbert and I are huge fans of R/M after this experience.)
Lyn:
I'm always available to come over to help you. Don't hesitate to call. You can focus on taking care of yourself and Herb.

Lyn
I’m so sorry to hear about all your back problems. Sounds like a total nightmare. We will be thinking about you and hoping for your speedy recovery. Let me know if there is something I can do to help you.
Tony Geiger
(So many people have offered to help. I am overwhelmed by all the kindness expressed. But Herbie has been a real gem. At this point, we are muddling along fine.)
Hey Lyn, just checking in to see how you are feeling this morning. We are all thinking of you!
Gary Neiss
Hey Lyn, I'm really sorry to hear about all the health problems you're going through. I've had a couple of overnight hospital stays recently and that's the absolute worse. If you ever find yourself needing help in any way, don't hesitate to give me a call. I'm usually around and you're just a few doors away. Good luck with the surgery, Lyn. I’m glad the doc was able to squeeze you in. Take one problem at a time. It will get better. Hang in there.
Russ Botwin
Wishing you well, speedy recoveries and NO MORE FALLS!
Ken Goldstein
Oh Lyn, I am sorry to hear this. I really suffered for a year before back surgery many years ago; it was the worst. I hope you get to the healing part soon.
Would a meal be helpful? I’d be happy to bring something by.
You will be in my prayers.
Andrea Dickey Genette
(Lyn's note: Thanks, but Herbie went to AJ's and got a bunch of food. He's mostly retired now and has been amazing. A lot of people, including restaurant workers, have offered to bring meals. Everyone has been so kind. But we seem to be muddling along. I see the back doc tomorrow.)
I’m so sorry to hear this, Lyn. Wishing you the best w next steps and feeling better!
John Long
I imagine a lot of people are going to be reaching out to you to see if they can help and see how you’re doing.
Cheryl D'Aliesio
Just read your latest, didn't get to the Superintendent's meeting stuff . . . I had a note on my calendar to call and check on you this coming Wednesday, which now sounds like surgery day for you!! WOW WOW WOW, what you've been going through!!! So sorry to know about the falls, the awful pain you are going through. Yikes. Prayers abound for you and for Herb. Will you be back at Thompson Peak for the surgery?
Carolyn Wolf
(They don't do back neurosurgery at Thompson Peak. I don't know where I'll be going, but tomorrow is just the appointment with the back neurosurgeon, so I'll have to wait to get on the surgical schedule, but I'm listed as a priority case.)
I'll appreciate that. A lot. If I don't hear anything, I'll call the house and bother Herb. If I can be of help in ANY way, you know I'm ready, willing, and mostly able.
Carolyn
So sorry to hear of your pain and “mechanical” issues. Your communications have been absolutely wonderful, and we will miss them. Your health is your priority. Wishing you all the best with your medical visits and healing.
Diane
Hope everything turns out well. Let me know if i can help in any way.

Lyn. Mike Krahe here. Wow! Sounds like you’ve got it bad. Keep us posted. We are in AZ for the month or so. Keeping you and Herbie in our thoughts and prayers.
Hi Lyn:
Just saw your latest Carefree Truth. If you and Herb need any assistance from me and John please let me know what we can do to help. I am happy to bring over/ pick up dinner or do whatever you two need assistance with. Hopefully they figure out what the right next step is to get you relief! So sorry things are piling up health wise and that these falls are happening so frequently. I am glad those muscular D'Aliesio boys were able to help. With a bad back plus shoulder plus knees in distress, getting back up cannot be easy.
Betsy Lynn
(Lyn's note: Cheryl and their daughter Sophie helped too. And 2 of their son's Noah's friends also came along. And of course, Sophia's twin brother Matthew. They are a wonderful family!)
Many prayers for a speedy recovery!!
Troy and Dana Wiggin
Oh ! I’m so sorry to hear of your falls!

I’m sorry to hear this Lyn! Get well and before you have surgery, talk to Dana Sterling at Sterling Structural Therapy in Carefree. https://sterlingstructuraltherapy.com/about-us/
She’s amazing. Call her to get an evaluation.

(Believe me, if there were an alternative to back surgery, I would take it. I've already had 3 epidural blocks, but they hold for less than a month and only reduce, not eliminate, the pain and burning. I've consulted with 4 docs already, all of whom are believers in trying all the alternatives before going to surgery. My lumbar spine has been compared to Africa, which was not a positive comparison!)
Hi Lyn. I’m sorry to hear about your medical troubles. I hope your doctors know what they are doing. It sounds like they have not been very responsive. If there’s anything we can bring you food, supplies, let us know.
Suzanne Mead
(Lyn's Note: Actually, all the docs I've seen have been wonderful. I have no complaints about any of them. I just really messed up my back when I was pulling on Effy's leash trying to get her to go out to go to the bathroom before bed. She was huge, old, and arthritic, so I leashed her to get her to her feet and the leash snapped, sending me flying backwards airborne and landing on concrete. Herbie looked at the MRI and declared that my lower back is "mush".)
Lyn - My heart goes out to you and to Herbie, your dedicated caregiver. You and Herbie are in my daily prayers.
Mike Wold
(Lyn's note: Herbie has been amazing. Thank God he is mostly retired, so is around to help me.)
Yowza Lyn! I have flexibility with my schedule so if you two need some help…let me know. We haven’t met but I do pay attention to your news letters. I can help with errands or cleaning….Glad it’s all mechanical…but still you have some big ones facing you.
Jackie Mesiti
(Lyn's note: Thanks so much. That is so kind of you, but we seem to have it handled. Herbie is now semi-retired and has told the practice he does vacation coverage for that he won't be available for a while and why. He's been a Godsend.)
Get better soon.
Best regards,
Vic Santoro
Oh, Lyn I know what you are going through except I have answers. Last November I fell on my front walk and got a black eye and a broken elbow. This spring I fell ended in the hospital over in Glendale where my cuts on head were tended to. I was at the Creek outside when it happened. This July I fell and broke my neck and have a huge hematoma on my brain. My neck’s ok now but had wear a collar for 6 weeks, even in the shower! I am hoping to have a stimulator put in my back after my hematoma goes down. Hopefully it will help my back. I don’t wish all this on anyone and here you had it. Well, we’re better for going through this. However, I am paranoid about falling. I am sure you feel the same way. Please let me know what they do for your back.
Sorry,
Louise Short
Oh my goodness. Lyn don’t worry about HOA right now. Just take care of you.

Cave Creek Museum to open its lauded Arizona Gold Mining Experience
The Cave Creek Museum is preparing to open the Arizona Gold Mining Experience, which is a special event that visitors and museum members can enjoy the second Saturday of every month.
The expansive outdoor experience begins in the museum’s lobby with a lively retelling of the Cave Creek mining district's history. Guests then move outside for numerous demonstrations that showcase the hard rock ore extraction process for which Cave Creek is renowned.
The excitement builds with the operation of the amazing Golden Reef Stamp Mill and Tramway, Arizona’s only fully operational ten-stamp ore crushing mill. The 10, 1,000-lb. stamps slam down in synchronized motion to pound ore removed from the mine into fine gravel. The stamp mill was brought from its former location at the Golden Reef Mine on Continental Mountain to Cave Creek Museum, which has the only fully operational mining stamp mill in its original mining district in Arizona; it is located and located just five miles from its site on the mountain. The Golden Reef stamp mill runs the second Saturday of every month through May. The giant stamp mill also is connected to a working tramway and ore carts that carry the ore to be pulverized to the stamp mill.
The experience continues as guests peer into a mineshaft to show the blasting techniques used by hard rock miners. Next, onto the new blacksmith shop for a demonstration of the many skills used when parts and tools had to be fabricated onsite.
Guests then are encouraged to try their luck at the gold panning station, where museum volunteers show visitors how to pan for ore and minerals just like the prospectors did.
Afterward, visitors enjoy a tour of the museum's inside exhibits, including the Feast of Rocks (a mineral display) on loan from the Arizona Mineral, Mining Museum and Natural Resources Education Museum.
Other exhibits showcasing Arizona’s mining history include historical and archaeology; articles from Cave Creek’s mining and agricultural past; the historic first Cave Creek church; and the tuberculosis cabin, which is on the National Register of Historic Places as the only known existing tubercular cabin from that era.
The Arizona Gold Mining Experience opens at 10 AM-11:15 PM in the museum lobby and admission is $7 for adults; $5 for seniors; children under 12 are free. Reservations required.
Reserve tickets online to secure your ability to attend on your desired date as there is a limited availability. Visitors, who should plan on coming early, can check in at 9 AM. Culture passes are not accepted for this event. Groups and home school groups are requested to contact the museum office to schedule for special arrangements on another date.
