The Carefree Thunderbird Artists show will take place this weekend on Friday the 15th - Sunday the 17th, from 10 AM -
5 PM, with setup beginning on Thursday evening at 5 PM. Many changes have been made from the usual format, due to Covid 19.
A revised Covid mitigation plan was submitted to the Arizona Department of Heath, as required. Thunderbird Artists has been very cooperative in working with the Town to make this event safe. There will be no fencing or gates, and no entry fees will be charged. This will prevent the choke points where crowds congregate to enter and exit the show. Music in the Pavilion has also been eliminated to prevent gatherings there. No wine will be available. Only artists booths will be present, more like a retail art market than a festival. It will be similar to other outdoor malls.
Masks will be required at the street level and going into artists' tents, and the number of people allowed into the tents at any one time will be restricted. Thunderbird Artists has hired off-duty Maricopa County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) deputies for security, one officer per 20 tents, to ensure compliance. Steve Prokopek noted that there are spaces within the Gardens where people can stroll and socially distance if they don't want to wear masks constantly.
