During Call to the Public, Carefree resident Les Hardie said he is part of a group of car enthusiasts.

They were commenting that Carefree hasn't had a big car show since 2011.  8 years is too long to go without one.  There are lots of great cars stashed away all around this area in garages and "man caves" that don't get out enough.  They need to be seen more, and the owners like to display them.  So their group has organized a vintage car show on March 7th at Sky Ranch Airport, from 8 AM-noon.  



They will emphasize that it is a Carefree show, and have used the "Pride of Place" sundial in their logo and all of their advertising.  His group felt that Carefree needed something different from the "noise maker down the street that involves 2 wheels".  A classic and vintage car show involving beautiful old 4 wheel vehicles and vintage airplanes is the right thing to do.


The group made arrangements with Sky Ranch, which is enthusiastic.  It will be a "static display" show.  No vehicles will be running.  It's not a fly-in, not a Cars & Coffee.  Entrants must register and pay.  The planes must come in the day before.  It will be free to the public, and they hope hundreds and hundreds will attend.  There will be music and food trucks.  The Embry Riddle Drone Team will put on a spectacular drone demonstration which will be a highlight of the show.  They are hoping to have 75-80 cars and 10-20 planes.  For more information, visit their website at

There are still opportunities for hospitality, restaurant and merchant sponsorships.  A lot of people will be bringing very valuable cars into town.  Those flying in may be staying for the weekend.  "It is reasonable to assume these people have some coins jingling around in their pocket, burning a hole in their pocket."  They will be staying in hotels and resorts, and eating in a lot of different restaurants.  This is a wonderful opportunity for Carefree businesses to sign up.  The event can also use some volunteers.  Those interested can sign up on the website.


Mr. Hardie stressed that this show will not be for hot rods or new cars.  There will be no 20-somethings driving new Porsches and burning rubber.  It will be mature owners with beautiful vintage cars.
