This season would be the 28th year of Thunderbird Artists shows in Carefree. Due to Covid-19, the November show has been cancelled. The 2 remaining shows will be held from 10 AM-5 PM on January 15th-17th and on March 12th-14th. The streets closures will begin at 5 PM the day before each show for the show set-ups. Closures include Ho Road, Ho Hum Road, Easy Street, and Sundial Circle. The traditional closures are shown in yellow. The additional closures are shown in green. The closures in green have been added to facilitate social distancing but can be scaled back if deemed appropriate closer to the time of each show.
Thunderbird Artists has agreed to follow the CDC guidelines for face coverings and social distancing. Food and beverages will only be consumed in designated areas. Face coverings will be worn in all other areas.
Vendor parking will be located in Cave Creek, with shuttle buses to bring vendors to and from their vehicles. Thunderbird has been working with the Town staff on parking options to minimize impacts to the businesses in downtown Carefree. The Town staff is working with art galleries and restaurants to encourage their participation in the shows. Food truck offerings will not be in direct competition with Carefree restaurants.
The Council reserved the right to cancel or to amend the footprint of the January and March shows if new safety requirements are enacted due to Covid-19 risks. The final decisions would be made in time for Thunderbird Artists to know if they could proceed, since artists need the ability to schedule their shows. With that provision in place, the Council voted unanimously to approve the street closures.
