"Thomas Jefferson said a democracy is dependent on an informed citizenry. I don't care whether it sounds corny or not. It's the truth." -Jim Lehrer
Well said. She apparently doesn’t care about the truth. I have sat with her at the post office and explained all the items in her ad that are incorrect including the cost of the water tank which she insists adding in the amount with total interest. This is not the way financial agreements are reported. I explained that when you buy a home your cost is what the house is valued for and not the total amount including all the interest accrued with the loan. If she can’t understand that, how can she be trusted with our Town’s finances?

Vice Mayor
(Lyn's note: about Diane Roth)
I want to express my gratitude for the opportunity to speak with you at the Council forum, hosted at Spirit of the Desert. I’d like to thank Steve Feld, the Chamber’s President, for moderating.
As I mentioned during the forum, one of Carefree’s most urgent needs is to incorporate our vision for the town’s future development into the revised General Plan. This will require our collective efforts. I support the addition of a Citizen Advisory Committee to provide input on all future major developments in Carefree.
Over 40% of Carefree’s annual operating budget is spent on police, fire, and emergency services. These costs are increasing, and we must explore affordable options to protect our residents.
New sales tax revenue through controlled economic development is crucial for ensuring the financial stability of our town. We must create favorable conditions to encourage environmentally sensitive development proposals on all of our limited inventory of commercially attractive properties.
During my tenure as president of the Cave Creek Museum and my service on the Carefree Town Council (simultaneously serving both roles), I worked to build a more positive relationship with Cave Creek’s Town Council, finding ways to collaborate on mutually beneficial projects. That relationship is important to both towns and must be nurtured.
I have great respect for our Town Staff, who are subject-matter experts and bring real value to our community and its residents. I recognize that the Town Council must actvely manage and enable Staff to take full advantage of this critical resource.
After Wednesday night’s forum, I am more confident in our goals and my ability to serve. I vow to continue acting in the best interest of residents of the town of Carefree, the BEST SMALL TOWN IN ARIZONA! Please vote by July 30th.
Vince D’Aliesio
Carefree Councilmember
Lyn, once again you are “spot on!” Another example of lie and deceit in the hope that no one will bother to check.
Thank you for this.

(Lyn's note: again, Diane Roth)
Diane Roth is a candidate running for the Carefree Town Council and supported by the Our Carefree PAC. While I don’t question her efforts to be successful, I do question her temperament to be a productive council member. The only positive commitment I’ve heard from her is a commitment to “transparency.” But as a member of the Boulders HOA, I don’t remember observing transparency during her term as a director there. What I do remember is that she exhibited extreme antipathy and high dudgeon towards the Town Council and the staff employees when she made an unsuccessful attempt to keep her seat in 2022.
During her current campaign she has publicly made hyperbolic statements, for example that the Carefree staff is over paid by 30% and the deadwood needs to be removed, and she also regularly lectures and criticizes our public officials in Town Council meetings. That was very evident again this month; here is one example: “We have not failed, you have failed us. Your job was to listen to our input and conform a General Plan from what we told you we wanted.” Apparently, when she gets involved she sees no room for Council members to exercise their own judgement, show leadership, or even demonstrate competence.
However, I’m a Carefree citizen too, and I certainly do expect those things from our Town Council. But I don’t expect them from Diane Roth.
With this negative attitude how can she be expected to work collegially with the other six Members of the town council? The last thing we need in Carefree is more rancor. Please vote for the candidates who can work together: Vince D’Aliesio, Stephen Hatcher, and Colleen Rose-Scurti.

Suzanne D. Johnson
Wow, your response to Lon Johnson was excellent!
Cheryl D'Aliesio
Recently two of the Carefree town council candidates have mentioned their intent to remove many of the town staff employees.
Lon Johnson & Diane Roth feel the staff is overpaid and incapable of fulfilling their roles supporting the town of Carefree, neither of which is true.
This petty complaining was the reason for bringing in an outside consultant along with two separate experts in finance who found the complaints completely unrealistic and unnecessary.
So again the town spends untold dollars to satisfy a handful of dissidents that have no specifics of any wrongdoing by town staff.
This is another example of their dislike for former council, current council, as well as the water tank and Hampton Inn.
If there were ever any specifics presented their complaining might be of some value but that’s not the case. They have no legitimate complaints and therefore can not be taken seriously.
These two individuals should either post specifics supporting their intent to remove the town staff or admit their error in judgement.
But since neither candidate intends on providing specifics the residents of Carefree must hold them accountable.
The position of Town Council member is not a position of glory and perks but rather requires specific skills that are displayed by Vince D’Aliesio, Steven Hatcher, & Colleen Rose Scurti. Please review the candidates forum and support these three candidates.

Remeber me? I wrote you and CarefreeTruth when it was first suggested,
The Hampton Inn, and strongly disagred with the project. In fact I had a
diisagreemet with a an from Carefree who had been in a high position with the mother company who strongly wanted the proect to take place. I wondered at the time why noone was agreeing with me.
Please excuse phrasing and spelling. I had a stroke.

So Lyn,
Your comments below I can appreciate, even though I would posit that the Hampton’s design and lighting is not in keeping with the character of Carefree. We won’t even mention the townhouses. You made your comments based on your view of the facts without challenging the integrity or the motivation of those who disagree. In my opinion, that is the essence of reasoned dialogue.
IT IS NATURAL FOR INDIVIDUALS AND/OR GROUPS TO HAVE DIFFERENT IDEAS ABOUT WHAT IS BEST FOR THE FUTURE OF CAREFREE OR FOR A PARTICULAR DEVELOPMENT. WHAT SHOULD NOT BECOME NORMAL IS THE DEMONIZATION OF OTHERS’ VIEWPOINTS , OR WORSE EACH OTHER AS HUMAN BEINGS.

(Lyn's note: You mean like the Green Shirt group calling the entire Council "crooks" and singling out Vince D'Aliesio to call an "asshole"? Seems kind of like the pot calling the kettle black. The ones you obviously support have been far worse.)
