Fund Raising Kickoff - Veterans Memorial in Carefree
The Veterans Memorial in Carefree will honor our nation’s veterans
A group of local veteran volunteers has kicked off a fundraising campaign to build and dedicate a Veterans Memorial in Carefree.
Building upon a tradition of honoring and appreciating the selfless service of our nation’s veterans, this group of area veterans has initiated the creation and construction of a Veterans Memorial within the Carefree Desert Gardens as a place of remembrance and reflection for the community.
“The Town of Carefree has been in search of a way to perpetually honor our local veterans” stated Vice Mayor John Crane. “The enthusiasm and passion of this group of vets and other supporters within the Desert Foothills region is contagious. This memorial will permit us to pay homage to veterans from all service branches who have served our country with honor.”
The team of veterans is addressing all aspects of the Veterans Memorial project, from implementing the design, developing architectural and engineering drawings, identifying an appropriate site, fund raising and working with contractors to build the piece. The goal is to have the project completed by mid-summer 2020, and to dedicate it later in the year.
Leading the charge is U.S. Army veteran and Carefree resident Mike Ferrell. He is joined by a veteran from each service branch. (Team members are listed on the reserve side.) Three of the five participating veterans are proud members of the American Legion Post 34, Cave Creek.
The Town of Carefree has designated a site in the Carefree Desert Gardens as a location for the memorial.
The Veterans Memorial will include a monument to our veterans with surrounding benches where visitors can sit and reflect on the devotion our veterans have shown to our country.
To move forward with the construction of the memorial, the team is soliciting donations from individuals and businesses. The goal is to raise $ 50,000 to make this vision a reality. Excess funds will be donated to organizations that support veterans in our community and throughout Arizona. Tax deductible donations in support of the Veterans Memorial may be made at https://www.attveterans.org/carefree/ . Please share questions and comments at veteransmemorialincarefree@gmail.com
