Mayor Les Peterson began the meeting by asking for a moment of silence to honor Ian Cordwell, the Cave Creek Planning Director, who passed away on December 18th. He made a huge contribution to their town.

She appreciated the Town for working on the noise issue, but she can't read in her living room and is angry because she can't use her house, which is her oasis. The motorcycle noise is increasing every year. An average of 1 loud bike a minute goes past her house during the week, and it's worse on weekends. She feels the value of all the homes along Cave Creek Road is falling due to this problem. Noise and speed are connected. The existing noise ordinance needs to be enforced. Rented ATVs also violate it. She spoke with the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) and they promised they would have a deputy on Cave Creek Road, but so far that has not materialized.
When speaking with MCSO, she noted that deputies in uniform moonlight on Cave Creek Road by the bars during Bike Week. They said it prevents murders. Mrs. Rawles asked how many DUIs were issued and was told there had only been one. After drinking at the bars all day, she doubted that all the bikers were sober, and said someone will get killed. It also sends a message that there is no law enforcement in this area. Give a few speeding and noise violation tickets, and the word will spread. She suggested forming a citizen committee to explore options.

Robert Jacobsen said he's been trying for 4 years, to no avail, to get the Town to severely cut back or remove the trees in the medians between Pima Road and Tom Darlington Drive. The trees are continuing to grow. He doesn't want to die because he ran into a tree, and he again asked the Town to remove the hazards.

Vice Mayor Crane also wished to correct a misstatement made at the previous Council meeting. It was said that Rod de Szendeffy, who owns Los Portales, and who allowed the Town to use space there for the Haunted House, would not be willing to provide that space again. This was a misunderstanding. Mr. de Szendeffy graciously offered that space again if the Town decided to hold the Pumpkin Festival next year.

Mayor Peterson noted that each January, municipalities typically prepare a report. Carefree is working on a State of the Town report which would be released in Carefree Truth, COINS, the CitySunTimes, and other interested publications later this week. He touched on the highlights of that report.
(The "State of the Town" will be published as our Carefree Truth newsletter #808 on Monday.)
