(Someone told us the doves in these pics were thrashers, but nope, they're mourning doves. We got corrected! At any rate, this was the stare-down before the dove went after the wren and chased it away. The birds are such fun to watch.)

Dear COINS:
While not wanting to exacerbate any divisiveness between the two communities, it brings back memories of a former Cave Creek Council Member and Vice Mayor who accused me and the Town of Carefree having opposition to Cave Creek’s incorporation. The accusation was not directly attributed to me, but since I was then a Carefree Council Member, I was the opposition, or enemy.
When I was confronted with that accusation, I looked into the history of the incorporation of both municipalities and learned that any delays allegedly by Carefree were, in fact, Carefree’s contribution in helping Cave Creek do it the right way. If my memory serves me correctly, Carefree was a target of Scottsdale and Cave Creek was about to be swallowed by Phoenix. My understanding is that unincorporated areas can only be annexed by municipalities directly adjoining.
While it was very nice to read about the undisputed history of Carefree doing the right thing, nothing better tells a story than including all facts, especially DOLLARS, which we can all relate to.
Below is your paragraph, re-formatted into four specific actions, along with minor additions. Somewhere, someone has the additional information.
The Town of Carefree has an undisputed history of working collaboratively with all of our municipal neighbors including the Town of Cave Creek. In particular,
1. Carefree has helped Cave Creek offset intersection improvement costs located wholly within the Town of Cave Creek, Traffic light at 56th Street, believed to be around $50,000.
2. helped pay outdoor recreational amenities within Cave Creek including the Black Mountain trailhead plans and the Spur Cross Ranch Preserve, at a cost of $100,000.00.
3. untangled Cave Creek’s municipal court situation while saving Cave Creek money, and, it is estimated that each Town will save $150,000.00 annually.
4. most importantly, assisted Cave Creek in 2005 in the condemnation of the privately held Cave Creek Water Company.
Yes, while helping Cave Creek, Carefree also obtained benefits; the 56th Street traffic light helps all drivers, Carefree residents can enjoy Spur Cross and Carefree residents gain from Court cost reductions. It may be OK to be “Mr. Nice Guy” and play the moral high ground, but sometimes we need “tell it like it is!”

Hi Lyn,
I heard and saw that you have been spreading the word about all of our programs and events and I just wanted to say thank you so much! It really means a lot and helps us in so many ways from not only getting the word out and sparking interest but creating new revenue streams and patrons and helping us meet our goals and filling our seats and classes so thank you!
