Carefree will hold the Veterans Day celebration on Thursday, November 11th in the Sanderson/Lincoln Pavilion from 3 PM - 5 PM. Vice Mayor John Crane explained that the Council was being asked to close the small section of Ho Hum Drive between Easy Street to behind the Pavilion from 1 PM - 6 PM to allow safe pedestrian traffic between the Pavilion and the Veterans Memorial monument. This is the first year the monument has been in place, and a lot of foot traffic is expected between that and the Pavilion before and after the event. The request was unanimously approved.

This year’s event will also feature a mixture of patriotic and military music by Todd Knowles and the Main Event Swing Band as well as “The Last Post” on the bugle, followed by “Taps” performed on dueling bugles.
Veterans Heritage Project (VHP) will be in attendance with VHP chapter students from Cactus Shadows High School and Sonoran Trails Middle School. They will display a student built veteran exhibit. VHP student veteran interviews compiled in books entitled “Since You Asked: Veterans Share Their Memories” will be for sale.

Mayor Les Peterson introduced Kelsie Hughes McSparran who presented information about the 3rd annual "Carefree AT&T Veterans Day Charity Three Miler" race that will take place on Saturday, November 13th, from 9 AM - 11 AM, as part of the Carefree Veterans Day celebration. She explained that Covid 19 precautions and safety procedures were in place.
The route of the races has been altered slightly to incorporate the Memorial Monument, where the races will start, and to be more in line with the Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast in the Sanderson Lincoln Pavilion. This year, the Three Miler is partnering with Kiwanis. They will be using the Pavilion stage to kick off the races and to present the awards at the end. This opens up the parking lot behind Town Hall, where the races started in previous years.
She requested a street closure on Ho Hum Road from 7 AM - 1 PM to allow safe foot traffic between the Pavilion and the Memorial Monument, as well as being a place for their sponsors to set up a tent. They are looking for additional business sponsors, and Mrs. McSparran noted that this organization is a tax deductible 501(c)3.
There will be a 1 mile "fun race" that will not be timed
