"The Foothills Caring Corps began in 1999 and grew organically as we worked to meet our older adults needs with programs to help them remain independent in their own homes. We are able to meet those needs only because we have volunteers stepping up to help."
"Caring Corps started because of a documented need through a community needs assessment in 1999. Four fundamental needs topped the list in this semi rural area:
1. Lack of public transportation beyond Pinnacle Peak – Deer Valley Road
2. Increasing mobility issues with our aging population
3. Loneliness and isolation with many of our older adults, who are often living alone and away from relatives and friends
4. Difficulty maintaining a circle of support due to difficulty getting out into the community if there is no transportation."
"Geographically we serve all of Carefree and Cave Creek, North Scottsdale and North Phoenix. Our service area is 420 square miles, which includes some of Tonto National Forest. Currently our geographic area has 32,300 residents who are over 60 and it is calculated we will see a 72% increase in the next 10 years to 45,000 seniors. In our geographic area there are 7,100 veterans. Currently 75% of our neighbors are over 80 years old, with 4 people over 100 years of age and 122 more than ninety years old."
"The average age of our volunteers is 70 years old, with 65% females and 35% males. Our programs have helped to maintain over 7,000 families in their home since we began our programs 20 years ago. Last year we provided almost 36,000 volunteer hours of service by 585 volunteers. We are proud of the 12 unique services we can provide, and the volunteers who provide those services."
"Our statistics show record numbers of trips to medical appointments, van trips, friendly visits and mobile meals. Last year we provided 10,400 mobile meals and we believe this year we will serve over 12,400 home delivered meals. We now have 8 vans and one car, with 5 vehicles with wheelchair lifts/ramps. We thank the Town of Carefree for allowing us to park our vehicles near our offices for easy access. Thank you."

"Residents need services. We know that there are residents who need our assistance but don’t know about us. Please call 480-488-1105 We come out to visit folks in their home to complete an intake to offer our services or to make referrals for other programs that people might need.
VOLUNTEER
We also know there are residents who need a place to volunteer their skills and talents. We have a monthly orientation and training on the 2nd Thursday of each month for potential volunteers. 9:00-11:00 in our offices, suite 106 on 7275 E. Easy Street, across from the Carefree P.O.
COLLABORATION
Besides our services to our neighbors, we also work in collaboration with the other non-profits, faith communities and for-profits to coordinate services for older adults. On a quarterly basis we meet to increase communication in the area so services can be made available for various issues that older adults might have.
HOW ARE WE FUNDED
75% Our funding comes from individual donors and the other 25% from grants and foundations. We appreciate the LTAF pass through funds for transportation services given to us by the Town of Carefree, and appreciate our partnership with the Town in your Season for Caring, helping us to give holiday gifts to some of our neighbors who are celebrating the holidays alone this year."
"Our Board of Directors, Volunteers, Neighbors and Staff thank the Town of Carefree for our community supporters, helping us grow and meet many of the needs of our older residents. Thank you for your 20 years of giving…as volunteers and supporters!"
