Issue #1026, June 3, 2022
John Traynor recently sent out his typical negative and inaccurate email rants, which he also sent to the Sonoran News, promising more to come. In it, he repeated the ludicrous lies being spread by certain people who oppose the Water Consolidation Project and the water storage tank now under construction.
This group has cost the Town needless additional legal fees, and those individuals have lost every lawsuit and appeal (there have been double digit numbers of them) that they have filed in court. Some of those individuals have been recent members of the Boulders North HOA Board. I wouldn't be surprised if residents of the Boulders North HOA find themselves saddled with hefty special assessments for the legal fees incurred by those fiscally irresponsible individual members of their Board at that time for all those losing lawsuits and appeals. At the very least, the reserve account that is used to maintain the streets, public spaces, and amenities has been dipped into significantly and will have to be replenished as those needs arise.
All those involved in that fiasco, both within and outside of the North Boulders, should be ashamed, but I suspect they are not, as their verbal assaults continue, and they have fielded some candidates who, and propositions that, agree in large part with their positions.
John Traynor demonstrated his support for several candidates in a recent "newsletter". In this "newsletter, he included letters he received from those who seem to fall in line with his narrative. He historically does not positively acknowledge those who do not. These letters are from Glenn Grossman (who obviously does not grasp the fact that Rural/Metro will no longer be supported by other fire departments under mutual aid agreements), as well as married couple Kathlina Lai and Sven Maric, running with Duke Vukotic who wrote, " We sincerely appreciate your continued support as we work together to take back our town.", and John Mattes, who previously asked when Carefree would be opening its "Covid Concentration Camp" and who supports Peter Sample for mayor.
Peter Sample has only lived in Carefree for a short time. He does not attend meetings and has never served on any committee, commission, or on the council, yet for some reason feels he is qualified to run the town. What he does do very well is plaster the area with his political sign pollution, seemingly a preview of what we can expect from him for responsible fiscal spending priorities and aesthetic enhancements. It has also been brought to my attention that Mr. Sample works 2 weeks a month in California, and would be "out of the office" for 1/2 of the year.
1. In these "newsletters", John Traynor wrote about a price tag that includes 30 years of interest payments. When one states one's home mortgage amount, does one state the mortgage price including all the interest paid over the life of the loan? This is the equivalent of doing so. The loan is being serviced by the sale of 30 year bonds at a very low interest rate, not by the existing customers of Carefree Water. What is also consistently left out is the fact that those coming onto Carefree Water bring with them not only the CAP water they own, in accordance with the IGA, but also a significant revenue stream that will help pay down the price of adding these residential and business accounts to the Carefree system.
2. John Traynor stated that all the residents of Carefree would be paying to bring those currently on Cave Creek Water onto Carefree Water. This is an oft repeated lie. The price of water for those current customers of Carefree Water will rise the same amount it has each year, approximately 4-1/2%, which is due to constantly rising costs. Those being transferred over to a long term sustainable water company will be the ones to pay more for the costs. Those already on Carefree Water will not be assessed for the additional costs, even though many of those customers are also benefiting from this project. New and improved infrastructure is replacing some of the old, and numerous places that lack fire hydrants will be getting them. These new fire hydrants will be installed on Rising Sun between Tranquil Trail & Golden Spur, Peaceful Place between Stagecoach Pass & Never Mind Trail, and Never Mind Trail between Peaceful Place & Carefree Drive, providing these homes with a vastly improved level of safety. These improvements are rolled into the cost of the project.
In his letter to the Sonoran News, John Traynor wrote, "...let us consider establishing the Carefree Water Sharing District (CFWSD). Implement a special water sharing district tax of $2,000 per year on the 526 beneficiary properties for planning, building, and then distribution of water from the system they wanted, lobbied, and organized to obtain." May we assume that he would also include those benefiting from the new fire hydrants and the improved updated infrastructure within the existing Carefree Water Company service area? Would he assess an annual tax to all the residents in the Boulders for the decommissioning of the smelly sewer plant, for which all the citizens of Carefree are paying a large price increase each month (it rose from $65 a month to $92 a month), and that benefited only those residents in the Boulders? Where does John Traynor draw the line?
3. We are in the midst of a severe years-long drought, with Lake Mead at an historic low, and with wildfires rampant in the last several years. CAP has already stated that they will be cutting back water allotments. Who in their right mind would believe that having an additional water storage tank, installed primarily for the purpose of fighting fires, is frivolous?
4. The placement of the water tank was dictated by multiple advantages, after a reputable professional company investigated 32 possible sites, as being the optimal location. These advantages include:
-Optimal elevation so gravity could be used for the feed, as opposed to requiring pumping stations
-The fact that there is a utility easement on the entire parcel and a 10" diameter underground water main pipe running under it, clearly demonstrates that this was always the intended eventual use for this parcel.
-This was the only parcel that ticked all the boxes for the optimal location.
-The lie is also being repeated over and over that that
location was chosen so the water tank could service the property at the N.W. corner of Carefree Highway and Tom Darlington Drive. The location of the pipes that will run along Carefree Highway do not allow for that. Those pesky laws of physics come into play. That property will be serviced from a connection just beyond the other end of the property.
5. These facts have been revealed at numerous public meetings and reported in Carefree Truth, as well as told in direct communications with those who keep repeating the lies, and who are claiming that the Town is not responding to their constant emails. How many times must these people hear the facts repeated before no one is willing to continue to respond to them? Readers, how many times would you be willing to respond to them? Repeating the same lies only confirms stupidity (defined by Google as having or showing a great lack of intelligence or common sense). Is this group willfully stupid, or are they just plain stupid? Asking for a friend...
