Foothills Food Bank produces annual art auction and bowl event online
Some of the most unique art in the territory now is available for bid online as part of the 2020 Foothills Empty Bowls Art Auction.
The auction is being held on the Foothills Food Bank & Resource Center’s website, foothillsfoodbank.com, which is sponsored by Tech4Life Computers & Websites. Individuals can bid on the art and also purchase glass and ceramic bowls donated by members and friends of the Sonoran Arts League, a key sponsor of the Empty Bowls Project.
“We are excited to offer the art auction online so people can support this important cause and spend time to bid on their favorite works of art,” says Carole Perry, founder of the event. “The online event begins September 1, 2020 and concludes on World Hunger Day, Friday, October 16, 2020 at 1:00 PM.
“This year's Empty Bowls Art Auction has tapped into the generous spirit of dozens of Sonoran Arts League artists,” says Perry. “We already have received more than 50 items, ranging from oil paintings by Beth Ames Schwartz to a glass sculpture by Joyce Van Loben Sels. Many artists donated two or more pieces out of a selfless desire to ensure that Foothills Food Bank has the resources it needs to help our neighbors in need.”
Perry says Christopher Heede, Judy Bruce, Dick Mueller, Katalin Ehling, Joan Nelson, Rose Balazs, Margaretha Stramecki, Jane Boggs, Sandra Luerson, Beth Zink, Christine Sandifur and Jeanne Bonine are just a few of the local artists people will find in this year's art auction. Sculpture, paintings, jewelry and fiber art all are available for bid starting September 1,” says Perry.
“Each of the glass and ceramic bowls comes with a gift certificate, redeemable between October 19-23, 2020, for a spaghetti meal at Harold’s Cave Creek Corral, also a key sponsor,” adds Perry. “Bowl purchasers should note that they will be able to choose from a large selection of bowls when they pick up their bowl(s) at one of two locations between October 12-16, from 12-5 PM. Addresses for the two pick-up locations, Foothills Food Bank and Laughing Glass Studio, both in Cave Creek, will be listed, with directions, on the food bank’s website.“
Winning bids for the art auction will be announced after 1:00 PM on October 16, on the website, and the art will be available for pick-up on Saturday, October 17, 2020 from 10 AM-2 PM, and on Monday, October 19, 2020 from 12-4 PM at Foothills Food Bank.
Foothills Food Bank & Resource Center provides emergency food, financial assistance and other life necessities and resources to individuals and families in the desert foothills, which encompasses a 180-square mile area that includes Black Canyon City, Mayer, Spring Valley, Cordes Lakes, Cave Creek, Carefree, Anthem, Desert Hills, New River, north Scottsdale, Rio Verde and north Phoenix.
The Sonoran Arts League is committed to advancing art and art education, with a special focus on mentoring youth with the belief that arts training helps develop the ability to focus and strengthens cognitive skills in young people. It offers a number of Youth Art programs for students K-12.
