Carefree Neighbors,
At our Council meeting on March 5th, Maricopa County Sheriff's Capt. Dave Letourneau addressed the public body and spoke of several items, one of which is the most trafficked event in our desert foothill community in the spring: Bike Week. This year is the 25th anniversary of the event, and increased congestion is expected. The captain spoke of the increased efforts that Cave Creek has taken to assist in parking and traffic management within the town of Cave Creek.
We asked the captain about noise ordinances, he said he did not have the manpower to enforce noise, nor did he have the manpower to enforce traffic at a critical point in our town: Pima and Cave Creek roads. This particular intersection is of concern, because motorists often disregard the stop signs at this intersection, which could prove to be fatal, as we recently experienced in our community. This is particularly disturbing, as anyone attending the Bike Week event has to go through Carefree on every road into the Cave Creek bar district. If you live anywhere near this intersection, please be extra cautious during Bike Week and drive defensively.
If you have concerns regarding noise, traffic, anything to do with the event, please contact Captain Letourneau’s office at (602) 876-1742
I caution residents to please practice extra precaution when commuting anywhere in the desert foothills communities March 29-April 7th. Please be careful.
