"Thomas Jefferson said a democracy is dependent on an informed citizenry. I don't care whether it sounds corny or not. It's the truth." -Jim Lehrer
Thank you Lyn…always appreciate your voice of reason.

I found the 1/2/24 Call to the Public comical. The 48 acres of scrub desert next to the Carefree Airpark is to be auctioned off for a minimum of $7 million ($145,833 per acre).
Wendy Mathis wants to preserve open space near where she lives (self serving). She stated that Carefree does not have a park - what does she call the downtown Gardens?
Stephanie Barbour announced that, “We would like to donate $100,000 to the Carefree park", which was followed by staged clapping. But a "pledge" is not a check. Show me the money.

Great update!

This group is absolutely despicable. I have made the same observation that they do NOT attended any of the Carefree town celebrations & ceremonies.
They are just agitators that want to cause problems. It’s a shame what has happened to our small town in a just few short years : (
Thank you for still reporting on this mess we find ourselves in. You both are a treasure to our lil village

Thank you for your comments regarding the Town Meeting. In addition I have never seen any of these rebels spending money in Carefree. The only time I them is at the Post Office. Never at the restaurants, or Bashas!!! They are very obnoxious and self centered.
Thank you for all you do.

Well stated Lyn! I’ve come to the conclusion that when any of these individuals speak its best to consider the source and tune them out as there is zero substance to what they cough up. I find it comical anymore with John Mattis and his call for investigations or threats of law suits. And the energetic younger woman who seems full of pep and energy yet never knows the facts of which she speaks. I only wish Crane would stand up to them rather than supporting their agenda of a park with no direction.
I always appreciate your information! Hope you two are well.
Thank you Lyn,
Jim Northcutt
Sent this to Kandace. Don't know if you want to publish or not but this is where Martha and I stand. I'm so tired of this nonsense all over the place; people trying to disrupt for disruption's sake and their own personal agenda. This agenda, on their part, makes zero sense.
Thanks,
Kevin
Hi Kandace,
Kevin Glenn here. I just read Lyn Hitchon's most recent email and Martha and I are appalled at what some of these Carefree residents are doing at the meetings. They most certainly do NOT represent 80% of Carefree residents and Martha and I support Mayor John Crane, the Vice Mayor, and the entire council 100% as do most people we know.
Martha and I live just west of Mule Train where the mentioned 48 acres are. While we would love to see the acreage left alone, we understand why a park might not make sense. We just don't want to see a lot of high density homes put in; however, we will support the Mayor and Council in whatever is decided in the end. Doesn't look like anything is going to happen for quite a while anyway. We've been here over 20 years and love our quiet neighborhood.
Don't know if this email helps in any way, but Lyn suggested that we write you with our thoughts so this is ours.
Best,
Kevin
(Lyn's note: The current zoning overlay for the 48 acres of State Trust land is low density residential, so there won't be a lot of high density housing there.)
Thanks for the clarification!
Kevin
Dear Lyn,
Thank you for keeping us informed on what is happening in Carefree.
Just a comment - it takes all kinds to make our WORLD!
Hugs

- How is donated money to be held? Is there an escrow account?
- If the land is not obtained, will it go back to the donors with interest?
- Or would it be used to purchase other more appropriate ground near already held Carefree land preserves?
