Given that the Town Council representatives also comprise the Board of Directors of the CFWC, is there a financial interest on the part of the individual members of the Town Council members in the CFWC?
John Nimsky
(Lyn's note: The Town Council also acts as the Board of Directors of the Carefree Water Company. The Planning & Zoning Commission also acts as the Development Review Board and the Board of Adjustment. All of these positions are done on a volunteer basis. The positions provide no compensation or benefits of any kind. Members of the Town Council/Water Company BOD have no financial interest in the CFWC and derive no benefit from serving, other than the knowledge that they are giving back to their community with their time and knowledge.)
Very informative. Thank you Lyn.

Awesome! I do not know the history but if it is good news for SR ... then fantastic!
Michael "Smit" Smith
(Lyn's note: The CSA water acquisition. "Smit" is a new resident in Sentinel Rock.)
Hey Lyn,
My daughter and I were on the hiking trail just a bit ago. A large mountain lion was only 15 feet away when we were on the rim. To which we slowly backed up and walked back. Of course it was the day I forgot my pepper spray, not that I want to use it or that it will do any good.
Anyway, remind people not to run. And be careful! It was a little too close for comfort. He did turn away and went down.
Bobbi Stumpf
(Lyn's note: I got this from a neighbor who asked that I share it with our residents, which I did. I decided to add it to Letters as well. I got the response below from one of our residents, so am adding that too.)

Lyn,
I used to run all the mining trails and have run into three mountain lions.
A friend of mine attended a Sierra Club mountain lion two-week training class.
He came back and told me, if you see a mountain lion on the trail just watching you, he's not interested in you. So you have nothing to worry about.
If he's interested in you he'll be up in the rocks or hiding as you go by,
he'll get you in the back of your head, and by the time you fall, you'll be gone.
So in either case, you have nothing to worry about.

Carefree Desert Garden Seminar
Fellow Gardeners,
Greetings and Happy February! This month's newsletter features two articles on living with wildlife in our desert along with videos of Kiftsgate Court Garden and an overview of a top ten list of botanical gardens in the world. Kiftsgate Court is described by Linda Larson, an Arizona Master Gardener, as remarkable for the care and additions by three generations of women which began in 1919. Today the estate is open for tea and wandering during the garden season. A vigorous white rose thrives there and has been named the Kiftsgate Rose. Here is the link to Linda's article which appeared in the most recent Master Gardener publication "Roots & Shoots." https://travelinggardener.com/100-years-of-gardening-kiftsgate-courts-garden/
