We attended the little birthday party today and lots of kids showed up. There is quite a group that are regulars at the Gila Slide and the playground equipment. We made lots of friends there! There are even people who take their kids from DC Ranch and South Cave Creek on a regular basis.
Thank you for donating so William and other kids can play at such a beautiful, peaceful and safe park.

Hello Lyn,
I have a request from my husband if you could include in Carefree Truth, he’d appreciate it.
Debbie Danowski
Hello Lyn,
I have a request from my husband if you could include in Carefree Truth, he’d appreciate it.
I need your assistance. There is a need for pre-1980 Carefree photos for our local museum.
A couple of months back I posted this photo from 1978 taken in front of the old Carefree Chevron station that used to be on the corner of Tom Darlington and Bloody Basin. I was a shaggy 18 year old kid earning his way through college on weekends by pumping gas, checking oil, washing windshields, installing car batteries and repairing flat tires for $2 per hour. Regular clientele included celebrities such as Hugh Downs, Dick Van Dyke, Paul Harvey, etc. My photo struck an interest with a volunteer at the museum. It turns out that there are lots of photos and history on Cave Creek pre-1980, but there is very little on Carefree.
If you are a longtime local resident and you have old photos of Carefree during this time period, please send them to ron@ronweiss.com along with a brief summary of what we are looking at. Buildings long gone, buildings still here and interesting citizens of the day are all appreciated.
If anyone has photos of the entire Carefree Chevron as seen from Tom Darlington, that would be especially awesome for me. It was operated by a wonderful gentlemen with an incredible dry sense of humor by the name of Walt Aberg along with his wife Martha. I remember his most experienced technician at the time I worked there was a gentleman named Ernie, but I don't recall his last name.
I will make sure my volunteer friend at the museum sees everything you post.
Thank you in advance!

New Show in The Holland Gallery of Fine Art: This show is sponsored by the Mesa Arts League. In addition to their own works, they are featuring the art of two Veterans in their Veteran Art Program. One is a vet from World War II (96 years old) and the other is from the Viet Nam War. They both passed on Jan. 14, and it is an honor to showcase their art.
The show goes from Feb. 1st to March 1st at the Holland Center. There will be a reception on Feb. 6 from 4:30 - 6:30.
Visual Arts Series Cancelled for 2021: The Visual Arts Series has been an ongoing joy every Winter for many years at The Holland Center. It was always an in-person event, and the attendees were able to get together, and have lively discussions with the presenters. This year, however, it has been difficult to get presenters. Many of the museums in the Phoenix area are closed, and not sending out any speakers. So we will look forward to 2022,when we can once again come together to share our love of art.
