Good seeing you and Herbie at Keeler's Steak House.
While reading the Council minutes and reflecting on almost everything taking place in Carefree, I am reassured we did the right thing in changing the old parking lot into the Carefree Gardens. Reassured and proud.
It begs the question, "Where would Carefree be today without the Amphitheater and Town Center"?

Dear Lyn:
Just a note to thank you for promoting our upcoming theater season. We are so excited about opening with Lion King, JR. The first weekend is totally sold out and only a few tickets are still available for the second weekend. The children have done such a good job with their parts. Our patrons are in for a treat. Arsenic & Old Lace, one of my favorite dark comedies, is already in rehearsal. Many thanks, again, Lyn. Always look forward to your posts.

Foothills Food Bank
FEEDING THE COMMUNITY ADVISORY
Feeding America: How the system of food banks works
Every year, millions of American households struggle with hunger. However, an amazing organization, made up of the nation’s food banks, is working to conquer the need. It’s called Feeding America. And, Foothills Food Bank & Resource Center is part of it.
Feeding America is the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization. Thanks to donations and support from businesses, government organizations and individuals, Feeding America food banks, pantries and programs serve 40 million people, including 12 million children and seven million seniors. Foothills Food Bank is one of 200 food banks and 60,000 food pantries that are part of this critical network.
The History of Feeding America
The world’s first food bank began when John van Hengel founded St. Mary’s Food Bank in 1967. He volunteered at a local soup kitchen serving meals to those in need. That’s when he decided to create a food bank, where people and companies with extra food could “deposit” it for others to withdraw.
His parish, St. Mary’s Basilica in Phoenix, gave him $3000 and an abandoned building to bring his concept to life. In return, he named the building St. Mary’s. Van Hengel is recognized as the father of food banking. St. Mary’s Food Bank is one of the largest food banks in the United States.
“Our food bank receives support from the Feeding America network through St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance, which aligns us with many food providers, such as local grocery stores,” says Pam DiPietro, executive director of Foothills Food Bank. “The stores provide us with perishable, non-perishable and important personal products to support seniors and families in need.”
“Foothills Food Bank and Resource Center provides emergency food, financial assistance and other life necessities and resources to individuals and families in the desert foothills, which encompasses a 180-square mile area that includes Black Canyon City, Cave Creek, Carefree, Anthem, Desert Hills, New River, Mayer, Cordes Lakes, Spring Valley, north Scottsdale and north Phoenix.
For more information, call Foothills Food Bank at 480.488.1145. Foothills Food Bank is located at 6038 E. Hidden Valley Drive in Cave Creek and 34501 Old Black Canyon Highway in Black Canyon City.
