I support Mayor Les Peterson, Vice Mayor John Crane, Council Members Vince D’Aliesio, Steven Hatcher, Michael Krahe, Cheryl Kroyer, and candidate Tony Geiger in the upcoming Carefree Mayoral and Town Council election. These individuals have worked tirelessly for our town for many years and I look forward to two more years of their leadership. I know these candidates personally and respect and admire them for their dedication to Carefree. Please exercise your right to vote and support these candidates with me!
Binka Schwan
Lyn, I would like to add my support for the reelection of Mayor Les Peterson in our upcoming election, given his experience and accomplishments, and also my personal endorsement of the six candidates for Town Council the Mayor has also recommended, who will need all our votes in this election if they are going to able to continue their fine service to our community.
I am particularly pleased that Tony Geiger has agreed to join and serve on our Town Council for the first time, given his vast knowledge and experience in all aspects of community water systems, which is extremely critical right now given the difficulties Carefree is having with Cave Creek, a Town we have done so much for over the years and which, unfortunately, under their current leadership, is not honoring the long standing water agreement between the two Towns. Taken together, these are all very deserving individuals with proven service to our community and will make a superb team in addressing these problems and continuing the direction and incredible accomplishments of our small yet very successful community.
As you know, I have been & continue to be involved in many areas of service to the Town and many of our local non-profit organizations since building our home here 20 years ago and, from my experience, believe these are the best candidates to continue the special community we have. Because of the good leadership we have had since our incorporation, Carefree is completely debt free, having built or purchased all our own community facilities, including our water company, our magnificent fire station, town hall, new town council chambers, outdoor amphitheater and gardens, and for many years has had the highest per capita reserves of any town or city in the state. In addition, the Town provides free fire and EMT services to all our residents, who formerly had to purchase this costly protection individually, and has accomplished all this without assessing a town property tax.
This is a particularly critical election and I sincerely implore all our citizens, if they want to see this progress continue, to lend their support and vote on August 4th for: Les Peterson, John Crane, Cheryl Kroyer, Michael Krahe, Stephen Hatcher, Vince D’Aliesio, and Tony Geiger.
Sincerely,
Lloyd Meyer
(Lyn’s Note: For the past 20 years, Lloyd has provided invaluable service to Carefree on the Subdivision Committee, Planning & Zoning Commission, the Town Council, and as Vice Mayor. He has also served a number of local non-profits including the Desert Foothills Library, Arizona Musicfest, and others where he was instrumental in the early growth & development of these fine organizations. In addition, Lloyd & his wife Donna performed the very popular Carefree Christmas Concerts on piano and organ for many years, also featuring hundreds of our school children singing special carols, and attracting well over 1,000 people to each event.)
U have my vote!!!!
Hugs,
Loraine Simons
Thank you so much. I love reading your newsletters and the pictures. I read them all (some not as well as others) and always look at the pictures. But this was wonderful because I was trying to fill out some of my ballot. Thank you again.

I have heard that there are only 526 Carefree residents who are currently on Cave Creek Water, with 3000 already on Carefree Water. Why is Carefree spending time and money to do this for relatively few residents?
Ann S.
(Lyn's note: That information is incorrect. Carefree has approximately 3800 residents. Cave Creek places the water accounts at 544. With an average of 2 residents per home, that’s 1088 residents, or almost a 1/3 of Carefree’s population. When the Town of Carefree bought and made improvements to the Carefree Water Company, all the residents and businesses in Carefree paid for that. Those still serviced by Cave Creek Water deserve to be assured of the clean, reliable water for which they helped pay.
Additionally, Cave Creek has intentionally held back water resources to serve commercial properties in Carefree. When developed, these commercial properties will support a sales tax centric model to pay for items like the Town’s fire and police protection contracts without requiring a local property tax. This is an investment in Carefree's long term future.
In addition, the residents and businesses in the Carefree Service Area currently on Cave Creek Water will bring their additional CAP allocation for not only homes and businesses, but for vacant lots too, over to the Carefree Water Company, as well as generating the significant revenue stream those customers generate. All of this is a matter of public record fact, and can be confirmed by checking the records. Cave Creek realizes the value that the Carefree Service Area brings to them, which is why they are fighting so hard to keep it.)
